Well last night I randomly woke up at about half 3. I was feeling quite hot and stuff and so went to open the window a bit.

Looked over at the guinea pig cage and saw Sprout sleeping but couldn't see McMac. I assumed he was in the hidey house.

Something under the cage caught my eye though.

Turns out it was McMac, just sat there inbetween the hay and fox boxes!

No idea how he got out, my two are really well behaved and never had problems of them jumping out or anything. My guess is he was snooping for treats that I keep on the desk next to the cage and he fell out. Last night he was being very nosey and trying to get onto the desk for treats but I guess he must have tried it for real while I was asleep mallethead

He is fine and everything, he is sat munching on hay and stuff as I type :) I am just glad he didn't chew any wires

:)) What a little escape artist!

We had a hamster a few years ago who was a master of escape!

One night, he got out of his cage which was in the downstairs hall and on top of a sideboard, managed to get to the floor, went across the hall, up the stairs, through the upstairs hall and into my sons bedroom where we found him right across the other side of the room under my sons bed nibbling on bits of fallen hamster food, which had come out of HIS hamsters cage. My sons hammy was kept by his bed.

I caught him and replaced him in his cage, which had a HUGE hole that he had eaten and he promptly fell asleep. He must have been so tired. :)

We renamed him Houdini and of course bought him a bigger and better cage in the hope that he would stop chewing. We went through 4 cages and 8 water bottles in the end, he could get through metal, wood, plastic...you name it! Never known a hamster like him.

Anyway, it's good that you found your piggy safe and well! :)

Ha ha! We had a hamster who ended up being called Houdini too - ours was a master of opening cage doors, no matter what you put on to block him.

None of my piggies have escaped though. Glad McMac was safe & well.

Gosh, I'd have had heart failure! I've always been obsessed with making sure all the small furries are well locked up at night. Maybe it's because I have a dog and a cat who don't mind the little ones, but I never know what might happen when I'm asleep.

Glad McMac is safe & sound. :)

I am glad you found him and that is safe.
That must have been a shock for you especially so early in the morning :)

I assume he'd stayed under the cage, feeling safer there, as he has never ventured around the room on the floor before and as that is where the mess was rolleyes he must of had a right shock!

Ha ha, I bet that must have been quite a fright. My late piggy Christopher was a master escape artist, I swear he used to think he was a hamster sometimes

Crazy guinea pig !

My boys are always trying to get under their cage, whenever i take them out, lots of yummy things down there !

I had a hamster once though, that also managed to get out of the cage, get upstairs and into my mums room, almost became a squashed hammy though as my mum woke a little startled and swatted him a little thinking it was a big spider crawling up her duvet ! Luckily he was okay though, cheeky little animals, always want to know whats going on out in the big ol’ world.

We had an escaped hamster, a male roborovsky (about the size of a furry walnut), who went into the conservatory where the open hutch was and helped himself to the entire contents of the piggy's food bowl. The ramp on the wooden hutch just stayed down all the time. He hid it all in a boot of mine that was lying on it's side on the floor, right in the toe. The piggys (two girls) were a bit scared by him and acted oddly next morning, that's what made me realise he had escaped. It must have been a massive undertaking for such a very small hamster, all that food!
