How will i know that my piggy is ok after a miscarriage? My peachy had a miscarriage yesterday she is eating and drinking now she runs too but one thing that bothers me is I haven't seen a poop since the day before her miscarriage. Also, acting as if she is ok, is this a sign that all things inside her came out? I'm talking about the placenta and fetuses. I saw 2 fetuses yesterday. Any advice is appreciated please note a trip to a vet is hard for me I live 10 hrs away from Manila (capital).TIA

Hi! I am very sorry for your poor girl. It sounds like all has come out and that she is getting over her miscarriage.

Please keep a very close eye on her bits (redness/swelling; loss of appetite/weight loss) in case she is developing pyometra (infection of the womb lining). You also need to keep an eye out for toxaemia (pregnancy blood poisoning, which is a metabolic nutrient absorption disorder that can develop in the two weeks before and after giving birth). it manifests with sudden lethargy/loss of appetite and comes on very quickly. In the later stages, you see salivating. Both issues will have to be seen by a vet as quickly as possible as an emergency; they are both easily treated in the early stages, but can kill if left too long.

As your girl is eating and drinking again, she is processing food; but she may not have eaten before or during her miscarriage, so it can take a few hours before you are likely to see some misshapen poos. Weigh her daily for the next 2-3 weeks, preferably at the same time of the day, to make sure that she is OK. Any weight loss over 50g needs to be seen by a vet. if necessary, top her up with hand feed.

You may also want to follow our pregnancy diet for another 2-3 weeks; just with unlimited pellets, so she can recover from the strain of the pregnancy. Afterwards, please follow our general diet recommendation.

Was your girl already pregnant when you got her? Please make sure that she is not getting pregnant again.

Thank you for the response, if it ain't you I would have think the UK thoughts of my american co-engineers. Sometimes it is good when you don't generalize, I'm quite sensitive when the big R is involved in any case because I went through it. // By mentioning above (Manila).

I bought our first g.p. 5 months ago, that was actually for my son who insisted to get touch with this little creature during our visit to the most south of the country. Our boar is smart, he can stand, he poops in one place and the odd thing is he mingles with our cat which my wife disagree much. In addition to that he wanders every corner of the house and garden, my wife will spend almost an hour searching for him everyday. So my wife decided to lock him up in his cage and find a partner for him.

So, we adopted another one like 2-3 weeks ago we got her through online ad. The g.p. is the one that my daughter like the most, white and brown in color with funky furr.

I could say that she was not pregnant by the time she was given to us. The fetus that I saw were small and we found her in a separate cage for female g.ps in the breeder's premise.

For now she's frequently checking her bottom and though she is eating and drinking ok I don't like to take chances by playing the role of a vet, as a dad's promise I will be driving the guinea to the capital tomorrow morning and stay there until next week.

//Thank you for the links you provided above my kids read that too.

When you come back, you will unfortunately have to keep your boy and your girl side by side, so they can interact but not make babies. :(

Your girl must have been already pregnant; you will see recognisable fetuses only during the second half of 9-10 week pregnancy. Sows eat the afterbirth to trigger the contraction of the womb and milk flow.

I hope that she will come through her ordeal well!

PS: A tip for your wife: I trained my first two piggies to come back into the run for a piece of cucumber at the end of the free-roaming slot.
