My guinea pig will not drink out of water bottle but will out of syringe. I tried putting the bottle up to him while on my lap , putting him up to it in cage . Could they have sold me him too soon ? They had ten at store he was calm and small . Could he have not learned from the others how to use the bottle yet?

It’s possible he doesn’t know how to use a bottle, put a bowl in the cage in case he is more comfortable using that
How old is he?

Does he live with another piggy? They are social herd animals and need to be kept in pairs.

I’m assuming you’re a New owner so here are some helpful guides - New Owners' Most Helpful How-To Guides and Information

Seconded to both suggestions. When I got my pair (Lizzie and Georgie) Georgie didn't appear to know how to use a water bottle and didn't seem interested in trying after two days. I introduced a small, squat bowl (hard for them to tip over) to make sure that she wouldn't dehydrate and after a few weeks watching her sister successfully use the bottle, she eventually transitioned. Now that they are both confident using the bottle I usually leave their bowl in but don't have to worry about them running out or dirtying their water too much if I don't get home right on time.

I rub vegetables and food smells they really like and they will possibly bite it thinking it is their favourite food and water comes out, then they could remember that they could drink water out of that. I also suggest if you see they are not sniffing or chewing the bottle end for some times, you should put a water bowl and try again or try other suggestions in this thread.
