Hi all. I’m looking for recommendations for a good size wooden run to use on the lawn as my previous one needs replacing. The old one is 6ft x 3ft and I’d like something of a similar size that folds for storage and the lid folds completely back to allow access into the pen. I’ve seen quite a lot online of that size but access is limited, making it difficult to catch piggies again! Does anyone have any suggestions please?

We have a large wooden folding run from

It’s about 5yrs old now, and doing ok. The lids a bit wonky- but I think that’s partly due to our lawn not being as level as it used to be.

I did a lot of research and eventually decided on this one:

It is very light, so easy to move to new grassy patches every time we put them out. And you can raise the lid on either end so easy access to put them in and take them out. I use my snuggle sacks to carry them in and out.

Also it is quite nice-looking so is a great addition to the garden!

It is not folding unless you take the screws out from the lid - so is not foldable on a daily basis, but can be folded away for the winter.

So without the screws in the lid, I’m guessing the lid just balances on top of the frame?

I have a run that looks exactly the same as the one furry and frightful posted but mine came from home & roost.

The run does not fold while the lid is screwed on, But the lid has to be screwed on otherwise it is totally insecure and at risk from predators.

I’m lucky enough that my OH and sons made my wooden and mesh folding runs. There’s a lot of hinges involved. But even though they are sturdy I never leave piggies outside unattended due to fear of predators.

Yes, that style seems to be widely available, but it’s catching the piggies again that could prove tricky, ie open one end and they immediately dash to the other …. I’m hoping to find something with wider access. Thanks for your reply.

Very lucky Vicki! Mine don’t get left unattended either as there are a couple of cats around.

Yes that is an issue. I have cable tied a wall of several grids together so it is totally rigid. I then use it to block them and herd them into a corner or their carry box. Mine are used to it now though so actually catching them with this design of run is easy with the ‘wall’!

Oh no, I screw the lid on for safety. Each end raises up so you can put the piggies in and out easily, and place their bits and bobs in. I'll unscrew the lid and fold it up and put it in the garage for winter.

I actually just created a video for my facebook page about that! I use my snuggle sacks to transport them. Have a look:

Thank you, but it won’t play for some reason! However, mine are used to be transported in a cosy daily from their cage to floor time pen, but I don’t think they’d be quite as keen to hop in the cosy to return indoors and sadly I’m not quite as agile as I used to be! Appreciate your help though ☺️

I know, mine sometimes need some "gentle encouragement" with two hands to get in the sack!

Here is the video again, it should work now.
