A friend of mine at work says that she's planning on getting pigs sometime soon. She used to own them as a child when she lived in Russia, but hasn't for a while now.

In the past she has had breakdowns caused by stress at work, and I think having pigs will really help her providing she cares for them properly.

She plans on getting two boys, as she knows that girls are more popular and so thought she'd take on boys instead. I've already started telling her about how rescues are more likely to have a bonded pair, and minimum cage sizes etc. ( I believe it's 2x4 for boys?) but she also has a cat, so whilst i'm encouraging her to get a C and C i've suggested she goes for something with a lid.

However, she's quite forgetful so I plan on making a little booklet/advice sheet that covers everything she needs to think about before getting them, and I need some help!

Topics so far are:

Go to a rescue
Cage size
Bedding material
Houses/bowls/etc
Feeding
Vets Bills
Nail Clipping
Grease Glands
Time Outside and Floor time
Handling

Anything else we can think of or any ideas for any of the above topics? I don't have boars so don't know that much about grease glands!

Any help is appreciated :)

It is great you are able to advise her. Looks like you have covered everything.

With grease gland cleaning there should also be checking their boar-bits particularly anal sacks. Not the most pleasant job but it's important to check they're not becoming impacted. You could also refer her to the forum if she has any more questions and she can find things out for herself. :)

Grease glands just need cleaning as and when. Nothing for her to worry about. Same goes for boar bits. I check mine weekly but don't interfere unless needed. Can do damage if your not careful. Tell her to join the forum firewall the help and advice she needs :)

anal sacks? grease glands? Oh deary me!
Best she gets the info from the experienced people(s) tell her to join the Forum too! So we can see her Piggies :D - also when I was reading up on Piggies the books don't ever tend to mention anal sacks and grease glands!
Don't forget lap blankets and cuddle sacks for Piggie comfort when she first gets them!
