Hi,

I was wanting to worm my piggies - they go out on the grass where foxes/cats etc. have access to.

Is it safe to use panacur? The recommended dose for small mammals is 20-40mg/kg, but I can find no info in the usual places (small animal medicine forumulary, noah compendium etc.) and none of the vets I work with have really encountered anyone who has ever wormed a guinea pig!

Any comments etc. on the use of panacur and worming guinea pigs in general?

Cheers!

Hi I use Four Seasons Anti Parasitc from Holistic Pet Supplies 0.5ml per pig once a month by mouth. I don't worm all of my pigs, just Bob who was loosing weight and the vet could find no explanation. He started putting weight on within 24 hours after being wormed so I've kept it up since then. He gradually kept putting the weight back on so it did the trick!
I think I've read about the use of Panacur but sorry I can't help you with doses.

Also panacur is normally given as a course... How many consecutive days should I give it for?
