As some of you may know, Eleanor had some lumps removed at the end of August which turned out to be non cancerous tumours. Around this time, she lost a fair bit of weight and between August and December she has lost 200g although the vet did explain her lumps could have weighed quite a lot so the weight loss isn't just down to body weight.

I took her to the vets in November as she developed a 'hoot' although she doesn't do it all the time. Her heart, lungs and airways all sound normal and apart from this occasional 'hoot' which the vet has explained could be allergy related, she appears healthy. It just scares me when she has a 'hooting' fit but I am slowly getting used to it.

I took her back to the vets in December and I was thrilled to learn she had put on a tiny bit of weight. Her heart, lungs and airways are still clear.

I took her back to the vets again today and she has lost a little weight :( When I say a little, I mean 25g but it is still a loss. Her heart, lungs and airways are still clear.

Ellie has been prescribed a weeks supply of baytril and probiotic just incase there is a small infection there. I am to take her back next Monday for a reweigh and check up.

The vet generally doesn't think there is much wrong with her but the weight loss is a slight concern.

She did explain that we could x ray her but has suggested we wait and see if she loses anymore this week and see if the baytril improves things.

I mentioned kidneys as Ellie is at the water bottle more than the others but this has been the case for the last 3.5 years and she doesn't drink that much more.

I guess I am to see what happens this week and keep my fingers crossed that she doesn't lose again this week :(

On the plus side, I had Ena and Erin's lumps checked out and the vet is confident they are fatty, I am just to keep and eye on them. All piggies have had health checks and nail trim too.

Aw, poor Ellie, was she checked for ovarian cysts? I know it was mentioned in your previous thread, but cant remember what you said. If she is still hormonal towards the other three E's and with the weight loss i wonder if these might be connected to a hormone imbalance?

I always allow 30 - 40g difference in weigh in's before i start to worry, 30g can be the difference between a full and empty bladder, and my toffee proudly prooved this one weigh in :)) there was a 26g difference before and after.

xx

I am sorry you are worried about your little one. 25g is not anything to be concerned about though and she may gain that again this week. I will keep my fingers crossed.

hugs, they are a worry at times aren't they....

25g is a normal amount to lose gain, just keep an extra close eye on her. Hope all is ok and lots of love to your little girl from us x

She has calmed down now regarding her hormonal period :) Although she wasn't x rayed for ovarian cysts, my vet doesn't seem to think she has them plus she has no other symptoms.

The thing with the weight loss is that she's up and down and she feels a lot skinnier than she once was :( Ellie always weighed around the same as Eliza who is a chunkster so it is really noticeable.

The vet wasn't worried that she had lost again this week but would have been happier if she had gained or at least stayed the same which is why she has suggested a re weigh and check next week. She had a huge wee when we got home too so her bladder was full when she was weighed plus she'd has veggies beforehand.

There is just a lot thats happened these last few moths, lumps removed, weight loss, hooting and you know when you have a feeling that something isn't quite right?

I know the feeling very well. Maybe see how she go's this week, then if no improvement or even just for peace of mind, an xray might be a good idea, it could show something up which could be causing the weight loss, has she had any urine or blood test done hun?

No, she hasn't. I think I will have to see how she gets on this week. I have just given her her baytril and now she is eating a piece of little gem x
