Worried about Eliza - Serious eye injury

Mr. Bailee Boy had a similar issue before my daughter or myself had taken him in. He still has a cloudy teeny little spot in his eye that has never disappeared and at times it does discharge but seems to not bother him. In the mornings I take a warm dampened tissue and gently wipe off the crustened discharge from the corner of his eye. He has had this now for over 2yrs.

Thank you. It is nice to hear of stories where eyes have been saved x

Thinking of you and Eliza, and keep my fingers crossed for this afternoon!

We are back from the vets and after a lot of thought and discussion, Eliza will be having her eye removed on Monday :( It is either that or PTS which the vet doesn't feel the need plus that isn't an option for me!

Her eye isn't going to get better, only worse, it is close to rupturing and she has clearly lost her sight in that eye :(

She has had a metacam injection and we have been given some to give her over the weekend alongside the Baytril and probiotics. I can take her off the eye drops as they're not doing any good and Eliza gets stressed by them.

To say I am scared is an understatement :(

Aw i'm so sorry, fingers crossed it all goes ok on Monday, i'm sure this time next week she will be back to normal and all will be forgotten or near enough x

Oh bless you both, I'd be frightened too :(
However I have read a lot of positive stories on here regarding eye removal and if she's well in herself there isn't much reason she shouldn't come through it ok. She has you and a good vet so she has the best possible chances. Ill be thinking of you both on Monday, best of luck x

Sorry to hear your news, I would just like to say about the experience I had with Poppy,
She was bitten by accident in the eye by one of my other sows, her eye was ruptured with the inside coming through the lens, however the vet decided to stitch her eye closed for five days to give it chance to rest, and I have to say this helped and her eye completely healed and now other than a small scar on the lens you can't tell anything ever happened.
I don't know whether this would be an option for your guinea as I have not seen the injury, but could it possibly be a help do you think?

Huge hugs Claire, hoping all goes well for Eliza on Monday. You do hear lots of positive reports on eye removal, it sounds like you have a good vet also. Love to you and Eliza x x

Thank you. This is most interesting to know and I am pleased Poppy didn't need surgery in the end :) I have posted a photo in this thread if you'd like to see back a page or two but since that photo, the actual eyeball is now red :(

I have tried not to post too many pics as I appreciate eyes aren't for everyone. I certainly am not a fan!

Vet did say that he will examine her again on Monday and if there is an improvement, they will reconsider but I'm not holding out much hope :( x

Thank you.

Today is the first day Eliza seems uncomfortable :( She's ok, eating and drinking but is a but rumbly and teeth chattery :(

Her metacam injection wears off this afternoon but I have some to give her orally tonight x

Haven't been on here for a while, sorry to hear about her eye.... &thankyou for the warning on the pic- good idea -I don't do eyes either, but did look.

Sorry she might lose her eye, I was hoping she could have been like one of mine &got away with antibiotics, mild salt solution bathed eye. She had a grass seed went right under her eyelid&I couldn't see it, her eye went bloodshot in the corner, cloudy &rugby ball shaped. Eye removal was an option .The vet was very off with me at first, as I didn't take her in on the Sunday when I noticed her eye watering on the Saturday night, but then realised she took ages to find the grass seed too, eventually removing it with tweezers,(Monday morning) then it seemed I was forgiven!

I'm sure you will make the right decision. Looks like there have been positive outcomes regarding one eyed piggy's anyway. Whichever you decide. All fingers and paws crossed for you both, from the girls &I. Hope all goes well Monday. Sounds like you have a good vet anyway. Love to all. Xx

Thank you for sharing your stories everyone. I won't be online much between now and tomorrow but can you all send vibes for Eliza as she is having her eye removal tomorrow :( I'm scared :( xx

Definitely sending very best vibes to Eliza for tomorrow, and hugs to you, as I know how worried you are.

Hope everything goes okay, will be thinking of Eliza and you. X

My Poppy's eye was much worse than that Claire and she made a full recovery, I just wish I had a photo to show you, but the inside of her eye was protruding out of the bite wound, I just hope your vet will really consider how bad it is before removing the eye completely.

Sending hugs for you and healing vibes for little Eliza. I hope she will be ok. :rose:

Sadly Eliza's eye has worsened since that photo was taken :( The blue film has now nearly gone and her eye is a mess, bright red and she has a whitish ulcer growing on the lens :(

Vet is going to reassess her eye again before operating but I'm not holding out much hope that it will be saved :( x
