My cousin has got one guinea pig and 2 cats.. and they dont mix!

The guineapig recently lost his pal..Jack and all he has now is a small teddy wich he adores.
The cats are always sticking in their paws trying to swipe him. Suceeding once on the bum!
His back left foot, on the pads are very sowllen.
And the vet says he has Hyperthermia but they might be able to cure it*sorry about my spelling*
I dont think poor Bill *the guinea* will be able to take the loss of his best pal. Cats swiping at him, his back foot raised and being treated for hyperthermia!

What should i doo?

I think the vet said hyperthermia any way :S

What an awkward situation :-\ Are you on good/friendly terms with them, can you make a few suggestions, or as Minty&Gary said, offer to take him on yourself? Poor little piggy :-\

I have put she says they are fine. ive told her over and over again.

She is having trouble with him and I would be able to take them off her for a few weeks or Months. I'll ask her.

I just want the best for Bill

If the pig is hypothermic, why didn't the vet offer subQ's and warmth to recover the pig from being too cold? The cure for hypothermic is to warm gradually, the "cure" for hyperthermia is to cool...

If the foot is swollen and red, I'd suspect bumblefoot not hypothemia. I can't see how you could have mixed up the technical term for bumblefoot (begins with Pod...) with Hypo of "too cold at core temperature".

Some guinea pigs can adapt well to losing a friend, others don't. I've had two pigs go both ways; one did not cope well without a friend and the other didn't seem too bothered but became extremely lonely and attention seeking later on. I'd suggest to your friend that she keeps an eye on Bill and his weight; if he begins to lose weight another vet trip and perhaps a friend would be in his best interest.

That foot would particularly concern me just now. My pigs have had red swollen feet, but I've caught it before it reached the cracking and infection stages of bumblefoot by using a cream provided by the vet. At my vet the cream was just £5 with no consultation fee's -- perhaps you could suggest that your friend points out the foot or finds another vet. Changing the bedding can help with the swollen foot too.

For the cat, if she's unable to keep the cat away from the pig, or spray the cat with water whenever it puts its paws into the cage (to teach it that's not allowed) then perhaps you could suggest she provides the pig with more space to hide from the cat?

You can only do so much. It's very kind of you to care this much about Bill. Good luck! :)

good luck with helping bill and your cousin. perhaps persuade her to put bill in a room where the cats don't go. really hoping you can help bill. sending hugs and cuddles to you from me and the girls and bless you for caring so much to want to help. :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:
