Hello,

I have two new pigs. I suggested in one thread about one eye on one of the pigs, I thought it would be better safe than sorry to take them to the vets and check it. They put dye in there and all is good, maybe something was in there but it’s come out now and no clouding or penetration etc. Vet was happy with it all, but I’m still noticing her squinting in one eye now and again. I looked closely and it could be little wispy hairs near her eye which I may trim back. She’s a teddy. She even checked her teeth and said what lovely teeth lol

Also I know I only had them since Thursday late afternoon, but they just don’t seem to be eating. I’m putting food by their house and it’s covered up. They don’t seem to be very active. I guess it’s still early days and it can take quite a while for them to build up confidence? They have had a go a few things but it’s a tiny amount

Hi

Please be patient and consider that a vet trip may have been a bit daunting as well.

I am sorry that she is still squinting from time to time. Keep an eye on it and consider applying some carbomer based eye gel or plain human eye drops once or twice daily.

Glad the vet gave the all clear. You did the right thing. Strange she’s still squinting. Keep an eye on it. No pun intended.

carbomer based eye gel
Thanks! What are some good drops etc I could get? Don’t want to get something no one has ever used. I could try and speak to vets but don’t want another consultation fee. She gave the green light regarding eye. Used dye etc so don’t know…

Any will work. Gel is better if you can get it as its soothing effect lasts longer. It's not a medication but quite simply artificial tear fluid. Just go for the basic, unenhanced stuff. ;)

Thanks, it’s strange cause the vet couldn’t see or find anything but I have been lubricating it. It’s when she’s in her hut. Maybe she is just dozing off, but she would close both eyes wouldn’t she? I’m not sure if I should go back or just keep an eye on it? No mucus or clouding or anything like that. It looks normal

Just keep on watching and lubricating if needed.

Amazon.co.uk Would this stuff be ok? I also have some eye gel from the vets from my old guinea pig, but I need to check the dates. It’s not an antibiotic. It’s just a gel they have alongside it at the time I think it’s called O-Cry Gel

Yes, it looks OK to me but if you already have a lubricant, then this is not needed.
