It's going to be very hot here tomorrow and I'm going to be out all day (important appointment out of London that I've already postponed once and can't change again) so I've been trying to work out the best things to do to keep the piggies as cool as possible.
This is what I'm thinking:

Open the windows tonight to hopefully get some cool air in
Close them before I go out tomorrow and also close the curtains in their room. Their room faces north west so the sun doesn't come round until mid/late afternoon but I won't be home until 6-7pm.
I have frozen water bottles in the freezer ready to put in the cage tomorrow morning.
I've taken their plastic pigloo and a thick fleecy hidey out of the cage and just left cardboard ones which hopefully will be cooler.

Does this make sense? Is there anything else I can do? I'm panicking a bit because although I got them through previous hot spells I was there to keep an eye on them .

All sounds good to me.

Mine are outside so I’ll bring in and then also do everything you have mentioned

Hi

Here are some little things that can make a difference:
- If you have curtains, then please close them.
- Make some air holes around the top of the cardboard boxes so heat cannot build up inside.
- Refill the water bottles with fresh cool water in the morning and if needed mix in some crushed ice to keep them cooler for longer.
- A larger piece of cucumber is also a good source of fluid in hot weather because the core stays cooler for longer.

If you come home and your piggies are not plastered to the wrapped frozen bottles, your other measures have worked: your piggies are quite simply not feeling overheated. That is what you are aiming for.

Please also be aware that guinea pigs don't sweat or pant so they don't need lots more fluid. What they need is constant access to drinkable or edible fluid that is not boiling hot. ;)
