I was putting her back in her cage and she jumped out of my arms. I usually have a good grip but she'd been snuggling into me so I wasn't being as aware as I should have been. It was about a foot drop - she landed and ran into her house.

I've read that it's really dangerous to drop them - is there anything I should do or look out for? She's 9 months old so quite big! Are pigs usually ok after something like this?

First of all see if she can run, then pick her up and see if she squeles when you hold her:if so she might have broken something. If she's broken something take her to the vet ASAP

She's probably OK if she ran but you might want to look her over and check. Check her mouth for broken teeth and cut lips.

Well she's running around and I picked her up and she just sniffed me and that was it, now she's gone back in her house and is munching on the hay.

Well if she's eating hay then theres no mouth injuries but if youre worried then a quick trip to the vets would put your mind at ease :)

Thanks both - she's eating food now too and running around. So I think she's ok. She gave me such a fright when she jumped!

I know once my trixy jumped out her cage , under it and into all the unk behind them in the garage :( so I had had to make a dramatic dive under the cage and find her :)

she willl be fine!

Last winter, I went out to check on my piggies in the garage and didnt check the door, when I opened it, Shirz dropped about 3 foot onto the concrete floor. I screamed like a little girl (I'm a 27yr old male) and chased round the garage trying to get her. Picked her up and smothered her in kisses and hugs and she was fine. A tooth fell out about a week later so we monitored that and she soon grew back a gnasher!

Piggies are far harder than people give them credit for... They can take a bit of roughness (accidental of course!) and providing you give them some lovely dandylion leaves or a treat they will soon forgive you :)
