My 4 year old girl Honey has been eating the wooden middle of her hutch and also her cardboard tube! Is that normal or should I be stopping her? x

Piggies like to chew and keep their teeth trim :) It might be worth putting extra hay in her hutch (to keep her mouth busy) and try stuffing loo rolls with hay too. (They can nibble newspaper, loo rolls and cardboard boxes) You could also try wooden fiddle sticks and wooden gnaw blocks to stop her from chewing her hutch :)

It's a Piggy thing. A lot of them do it. The wood should'nt be toxic if it's a proper hutch.

Ron had a wooden house that he would chew on all day. I think they do it to keep their teeth trim. Wouldn't worry about it :)

Hi, yes as long as your wood is not treated it should be ok :)
Both my girls chew their cardboard hidey that i made them and there night one too :))

One thing you might like to do is use some clean toilet roll insides (the cardboard bit) and stuff them with hay, lots of people do that, it's great excercise for them :)

Putts wooden house originally had one door and one window. After several years of chewing renovations by her and her sister pitch (rip), the wooden house now has just one large french window.

She also loves to demolish her newspaper carpet. I' ve often thought off putting her on fleece but know she would chew it - she loves trying to eat her daddys trousers during lap time.

Some pigs are just chewers.

Thanks!

Thanks everyone! We did get her some gnaw sticks but she just wasn't interested! :P shes a strange piggie!

my piggies dont like shop bought wood but love apple branches complete with leaves (pear branches would also work)

We bought ours the willow type sticks but they weren't interested either but when we got them the c&c cage and put them in they decided they'd start chewing at the bars so I managed to thread some of these in the spot where they chewed which seemed to help a bit.

Cardboard/paper is fine. Chewing would is fine, as long as she does not swallow huge amounts as she could get splinters!

Yes, I have the same problem, I bring all sort of fancy gnaw stuff and ours are simply not interested but they love paperrolleyes
