I'm not thinking about getting another pig just yet as I don't have a big enough set-up but I was wondering if it might ever work to add a neutered boar to two sows? Thanks

When i got my neutered boar from the RSPCA he was originally supposed to be bonded with my mother and daughter pairing - but this didn't work out at first so i got him a wife of his own - some months later i added a second wife for him and they happily lived as a trio for about 6months, but both girls were quite laid back and instantly got along (within minutes they were grooming one another).

My neutered boy now has 5 wives - but as a trio the two girls worked perfectly with a neutered male, and i never saw any of them being left out or pushed aside (this is often said to happen with three pigs - maybe it's an all female thing) - but having said that, my boar has a lot of love to give and he definitely shares it equally amongst his girls ;)

I'm sure the more experienced members will contribute to this thread with their own trio experiences, but i definitely think the neutered male and two girl scenario works best when it comes to trios in general :)

My neutered boar, Billy, lives in with his grandmother and her friend, Muffin. Both of them stand up for themselves so when he gets a bit rowdy they tell him off. My Billy's a hard lad though and doesn't seem too fussed by their occasional nose-buts. All in all they live very happily together and have formed themselves into the sort of group you'd find in the wild. When out in the garden Billy acts like the dominant and leads them all around the yard!

From my experience trios work very well. I once had one neutered boar in with four sows and that went well too.

Our trio works very well too (we have a neutered boar who we think is about 5yrs old and sisters who are 7 months) I'm very tempted to add another female as I know of a lone sow who is looking for a new home but am slightly worried about upsetting the balance!

My Nico loves his girls. I did have three girls but they have been a trio for about 6 months since loosing Lexi. Charlotte and Lexi used to really argue before I got Nico but just having him around settled them down. I am looking to make them a quartet again but I just need to find that special little girl to fit in the bottom of the herd.

My trio consists of Rebel, a neutered boy, his mother, and an unrelated older sow. All 3 get on famously. :)

Yes I think a boy with ladies works fine usually, it's trio of just boys that causes issues x
