Hi all,
I'm a student and miss having guineas so thinking of building a CnC cage and getting a pair. THe only issue is that as i am a student the only room i have real control over is my multifunction bedroom. Would guineapigs be ok and happy in a room and all the things that could entail, ie morning alarm clocks, perhaps music, maybe even the odd movie? Its worth mentioning I'm a PhD student so not talking first year of uni crazy parties etc!
ANyone have any experience of this?
Thanks
David

Hiya, i am a protective piggy mum and have my pigs in pretty much every room in the house...to start with they may be a bit scared, but all in all I think its quite a good idea for them to live 'with' you as they become a lot more confident and tame! My piggies squeak at me and come upto the cage when I walk past! ;D

I think its a great idea O0

I have 2 pairs of piggies and 1 pair of bunnies live permanently in my bedroom and they are absolutly fine with it O0

My pigs live in my bedroom... they love it, I like being so close to them, although they have sort of taken over ;D

I have a pair of piggies living in my bedroom, and I have alarm clocks, tv, music ,hairdyer, and they are fine, like perfectpiggies said, it may be that they are scared at first but they will get used to all the noises.

I'm a finalist student, just finished and my 3 pigs live in my room, have done all year and they've been fine. They do develop music preferences though. I love havin them with me all the time, its great.

Mine are in the living room and are fine there, they get used to all the noises :)

Welcome to the forum :)

I've got 5 guineas in a big pen in my kitchen. To start with they were nervous as they were used to living in a shed but they seem really relaxed now. They're used to 2 dogs wandering round and peering in, radio, smoke alarm going off (I'm not a good cook), etc etc. Their favourite noise is the fridge door for some reason!

I'm sure they'd love it. Be prepared to do really regular cleaning out though, especially in your bedroom.

Mine are in the living room as well, and seem, to do ok. :) I have to clean mine out every 3 days or 4 days, in the c + c cage.

I'm a second year student and i keep my two piggies in my room, and they seem perfectly happy.

i found it helped taming them, as their cage is on top of a set of drawers near to my pc, so in between doing uni work, i show them attention in between :D

All of my piggies have lived in the house and were fine with telly on and little kids being noisy ect :)

Thanks everyone for the replies! It sounds like what i was hoping will work, ie the thought of coming home to some guineas after long day of research sounds brill, thanks again all!

Hi there and welcome to the forum David, from OZ :)

Our piggies are indoor but downstairs in the workshop, but Duke (Sully is at the bridge now :'( ) doesn't mind people coming and going. The only time i move him is when we have a full on party, i pop him in the garage so he doesn't get all the noise ::)
BTW our house is all connected, so he's not in a cold garage it's insulated not as warm as the workshop but if it's cold weather he gets blankets to cover his cage as well O0

Great idea tho, i love to come home and walk thru and say good afternoon to Duke, it brightens up my day :smitten: :smitten:

Yeah! i have 8 piggies in my room! it's nice because I love the low wheeks while they are getting ready for bed! Also, if they are in any sort of discomfort or aren't happy, they let me know right away!

I also like having them in my room because when Luna had her babies, she was having stress issues and was running from the little ones that were trying to suckle. I had been sleeping when she started this, and she gave me a real worry.. but I let her eat and drink in peace, and then put her back in with bubs and she was fine! just needed to let me know in the middle of the night that she needed some peace!! ;D

They always tell me if I've forgotten something too.. >.< "Mum! Hay please!" "Um, my waters low :("

I, too, had all four piggies in my bedroom.

They didn't mind any of my noisy business, yet jumped every time I sneezed. 98)

;D mine run and hide everytime I walk in the door... and everytime I move somthing they all start wheeking ;D ;D

Mine live with my in my studio so they hear the kettle, tv, radio, hairdryer, phone, food processor etc. They don't mind. The only noise that freaks them out is the doorbell, or when I use the 'find' feature on my cordless phone! ::)
