Would I be better going for an older boar?

Hi guys,
as I've said before Kevin seems to have sight difficulties, if he can see at all! I have no idea how old he is as he just came to me as 'adult', I am however having a guess and would say he must be around 2+. After Richie died he's been besides himself, it's as if he's lost a limb. I'm going to get him a friend however taking into account his age and sight I'm not sure if a baby is the best way to go. I'm worried that when the hormonal stages hit the bond will break as Kevin is very nervous around anything unexpected! If a baby boar starts testing for dominance I'm pretty certain he'd go berserk. For these reasons I was wondering your opinion on getting him an older boar friend, around his own age or older. I feel as long as the personalities suit he will get a better bond from this as there won't be the unexpected hormones to deal with. I understand nothing is certain however I'd love to get a second opinion! It would also be a lovely chance to give an older piggie a home as I know they struggle more so than babies.

I think an older or same age submissive boar would be perfect. A baby may be too hectic for him.... Maybe a Rex would be good? My experience of rex's are that they are reeeeeally placid xx

I do have a Rex but I've heard that he was a dominant piggie in his previous pairing so I doubt that would work. I think I may try and go through a rescue, an older piggie is probably my best bet. I'm just so anxious, he seems so lonely :(

Yes a rescue will be best if you have the option. They get depressed alone don't they bless him! It would be lovely to see him with a new buddy, good luck! Xx

Can you put him next to your Rex in a cage? Maybe being close would cheer him up in the meantime?

when i got mica he was 2yrs i put him and at the time baby guinea caramel together mica is now 6yrs and carameel 31/2yrs and they are inseparateable it all depends on the animals behaviour. good luck

rex are usually laid back but it depends on the individual animal as long as they can see each other and talk to one another they will be fine, my guineas are all in individual cages as most are to dominant ollie is the boss man, i do have a rex myself an he is the friendliest piggie and he lives with gizzie who will be getting castrated soon, and mica and caramel best of buds, and brothers auggie and rocky who sadly lost their brother lockie last month good luck as i said keep them apart and do slow intros for example let them run around a room together this will allow * to see how they get on together, this is how i do the intros for my piggies it might work for * to.

This piggie has sight problems, so 'seeing' each other would be an issue in this case...

It sounds like an older, more placid boar would be best for him. Good luck with finding him a new friend. :)

I think a adult boar that is very laid back and chillled is the way to go :) as long as they are through the hormonal teenage it should be fine. Hopefully a rescue can help pick one out for you that would be just right

Thank you, I'm going to look into rescues ASAP. They'll have their new cages at the beginning of feb and I don't like the thought of him in a 6ft cage on his own, poor little man.
