Hi everyone my names natalie and i hav two amazing little piggys ... molly and meg ...
today i have noticed something on mollys back end and just wondred if anyone new what it would be ... i am making an oppointment with the vet on monday .. but just wondered if anyone could help as i m clueless as i am rather new to caring for them i have googled everything and cant seem to find anything ...

Hmmm... I'm not 100% but I'm pretty sure it's the grease gland. It is basically just a secretory gland, it can become active - you'll just have to monitor it - in which case you'll have to clean it. One of my piggies had an active grease gland and Cetaphil worked quite well for me. It's completely normal, don't worry, you only need to see a vet if it looks raw or irritated. I just want another member to verify...

Yes, it's a grease gland. To prevent any irritation in it, you'll need to clean it out every once in a while. Here's a thread that on bathing piggies, it shows how to clean the grease gland http://www.theguineapigforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=47314

i use Washing up liquid to clean it, some people use swarfega but personally i find fairy liquid is the best just make sure you wash it off properly x
