My guinea-pigs chew the newspaper in their hutch, and I thought to keep them entertained for a while tommorow, could I put a pile of newspaper in their shed for them to rip up and pull around?
The inks in newspaper are all vegetable based and safe to eat - that's why they run when wet. They changed all inks across to safe inks a few years ago now - you can't get ink poisoning from eating any ink associated with humans! (The children at school used to tease each other about ink poisoning when they chewed the ends off pens so I went and looked it all up. I don't know quite why they changed the inks on newspapers, perhaps they were expecting humans to eat it!)
