Have been in contact with a breeder who is selling some of her poiggies due sadly to ill health (her own). We have told her the piggies we're interested in but she is pretty aggressive in her tone when in contact & not too forthcoming at answering questions about the nature of her piggies.

Would you go ahead & buy from someone you get a bad vibe from? Unsure what to do!
 
she wont sell many with that attitude,stupid woman >:(

i dont know what id do,maybe go on gut instinct
 
I know - it's hard but she just seems really unkeen to reveal much about them.

Part of me says steer well clear & part of me says but the piggies are so lovely :-\

god knows why she wont reveal much about them ?
that sounds real weird
 
All she says is the sows are all together, are friendly & tame & like cuddles, maybe it is just she's upset at having to rehome or maybe she thinks I am judging her way of caring for them - not sure!
 
There are plenty of lovely pigs in rescues waiting for forever homes - I'd go to one of them if I were in your place.

why is it when we ask questions they seem to close up
ive noticed that before
 
Glad it's not just me it happens to then!

I've been looking at lots of rescues but they havn't had anyone that's tugged at the old heartstrings as yet!
 
maybe she doesn't really want to part with them, I always like to think the best of people, you will find the pigs will be perfect condition but dont forget breeder do tend to interbreed but go by your own instinct if you like that despite them being from a breeder go for it I'e rescued pigs from a breeder and some lasted 4 years further making them 5 going on 6 theres not guarantees is there good luck,
 
I've got two from a breeder who was absolutely lovely and gave me loads of info. If she's got nothing to hide I don't know why she isn't nicer, unless she's simply not a people person. Not all breeders are bad and my two girls are really laid back and lovely. My breeders had her last litter now and is going to focus on rescuing, so perhaps isn't your average breeder ;)
 
my breeder i got coco, biscuit georgy and fluffly from is also really nice :)
she keeps some of her piggies herself. and i've had no health problems.
we keep in touch with each other, and she helped coco as much as she could when
she ill. [rip coco] and she let us have georgy for free, because of the such
drama we'd had with our piggies. (we were going to buy him)
and i have never had such good natured piggies.
 
It does sound a bit strange, some people can come across like that ive had that before rang up about some piggies and she had a bad tone to her voice and although the piggies might have been lovely she put me off straight away! just go with your instinct :)
 
Thanks everyone, she has mailed to say she is just very upset at having to let them go so that may be why!.

We now have to decide between a dalmation sow, a gold/brown teddy sow, a silver rex or pure white rex...decisions decisions!

I think i know the person you mean, she is just really really upset & has also had a few unhelpfull comments, but none the less a lovely lady & has stunning pigs... of which I'm having a few ! ;D
 
My only concern with people taking from breeders is that some of them periodically have "clear outs" with the intention of simply making room for new stock. From the welfare perspective I personally don't like it....but that is simply my personal take on this. It's not about the breeder concerned as I genuinely have no idea who they are.

I think I know the lady you are talking about - did she advertise on Guineapig Rehome? I couldn't really take any of theres as I think they were mostly girls or bonded boards... but I did feel sorry for her, she must be really poorly to have to get rid of her pets.
 
Some people do have a funny attitude and it puts you right off. I phoned about a hutch the other day and mentioned that I wanted it for inside. The woman said, well that's not right - I've been breeding guinea-pigs for over 30 years and they shouldn't be kept inside.

I just thought sod off, and didn't even bother going to look. I knew I'd lose my temper if she was like that on the phone, let alone in person!

Bit of a dilemma for you, good luck with whatever you decide.
