Ok, first thing to say is I've called the emergency 24hr vets, they're going to call back with advice/action. The emergency vet hospital is literally 400yards from me so I'm hoping they'll direct me there.

So, Willow's had an abscess removed, 2 weeks ago now. She developed post-op swelling, a seroma. I was assured this was fairly normal, it was drained twice, we actually went to the vets today (well yesterday now, Thursday) and it wasn't drained, vet was confident it'd just slowly get reabsorbed by the body.

Willow has been fine, normal, everything brilliant, you wouldn't even know she'd had the op or lump at all. She's been out for lap time tonight, about 9pm, I gave her her Baytril dose and she was fine. Just now, I'm about to go to bed and I see what looks like a piece of meat, like raw mince, on top of a log roll. No blood or blood trail or any sign of blood. First I thought it was one of their tongues, like one had bitten it off? It was about 1cm big, quite soft like uncooked meat. Immediately picked up Willow, she's damp around the neck so I took a closer look - she's made a small hole (not overly clear on the pic but I'd say about 2-3mm) and I'm only guessing that she's pulled this lump of flesh from it!

Will update when I know something clearer from vet, I'm so panicked right now :(
 
Right, they've called back, we're off to the hospital :(
 
So, we went. I'll make this brief as I'm so tired it's a joke! Basically wonderpig Willow was checked over and cleaned up and we're to make an appointment with our small furry expert vet asap. Willow can't get to the hole with her mouth, she must've helped this thing on its way by clawing it out. Vet left it to me to decide whether to separate her and Marble and I've decided not to, as a) Willow is still acting like nothing's up (think she's wondering what all the fuss is about!), b) Marble wasn't physically obstructive/curious after Willow's op and c) it actually stressed them more to be separate after the op.

I'm in a slightly more reassured state than the abject panic after freaky meat appearance. I mean, what the heck? This is like some gross sci-fi! Unfortunately I didn't take the lump with me (panicked idiot), only had photos, so vet couldn't say and didn't want to guess what it was. She seemed to focus more on the fact that Willow was fine (cheers Willow, now I think the whole local vet community think I'm neurotic!).

I'm not good with panic + no sleep, off for some zzzzzz
 
How very strange.
I have nothing constructive to add at all, except Willow is clearly the pig that was sent to you to keep you on your toes!
I am glad she is ok though, and will be interested to hear what that lump turns out to be.
 
Guinea Pig mystery... I'm just relieved to hear that Willow seems untroubled by her recent kerfuffle.
 
So puzzled by this! The great (and I guess most significant?) thing is that Willow is acting fine. I had a look at the hole in her neck and it's dried, no redness, she's not been picking at it, the hair is dry there now.

Wondering if anyone more experienced has ever encountered this kind of thing? @sport_billy @Wiebke @Adelle
 
Not quite your usual thing - I've never come across it on our forum.

But glad that Willow is fine in herself and hopefully recovering well and quickly.

Just wondering what a 'naked' fatty lump looks like? @Abi_nurse any ideas? It does look solid &fleshy :(

Not something iv seen before, but given the circumstances it could be a piece of rejected stitch that's naturally formed tissue around it due to the bodies response to try and get rid of it. Could also explain why the area was creating so much fluid!

Hopefully the fluid issues will calm down now that's gone, the body clearly wanted rid of it!x
 
Thank you all for your replies, Willow has certainly kept me on her toes in her little life, that's for sure!

I spoke to our small exotic vet, he's as cool as a cucumber, doesn't feel he needs to see her. I have to trust him on this, he does know Willow (and me!) well. I emailed him pics of the lump, he obvs can't be sure but reckons it's similar 'waste byproduct' from the op recovery, kinda like the seroma but more solid form. I respect and trust this guy, he's not said NOT to see him, but based on her presentation now (amazingly fine!), he doesn't think he'd be able to do anything additional to the emergency vet, which is just the cleaning. Basically said to keep an eye on her and call if anything changes.

What a bizarre ol' turn of events!
 
@Adelle Yes - forgot to add, there's now no lump! So hopefully Willow's 'self surgery' might actually turn out to be beneficial to this healing!

I was just reading through your thread and was thinking hopefully Willow feels better after her self treatment. Scary for you though! Glad all seems OK now.
 
So weird? Could it be the capsule of the abscess (the walls around the fluid) or was the abscess removed in total? One of my pigs had an abscess capsule showing through a biopsy incision in her back at one point and it looked similar to that... my kids said it looked like a little brain! I'm glad she is doing well on her own!
 
I am so glad Willow is fine. Guess we all learned she is her very own surgeon now.

Dr.Willow please don't do such a scary thing again without warning your hooman first!
 
@Freela The vet told me the abscess had been taken out in it's entirety... but you never know!

@Squeakz You know how teenagers think they know best? Think I've raised a GP version... "Vet SAID he removed my lump but I actually did a better job!" :))
 
Go Willow! Self surgery! Impressive. I think she needs to be known as Dr Willow from now on
