Hello,

I have a piggy Ruth who had a marble sized lump on her side. We went to the vets (1st November) and they put a needle in and nothing except it bled a lot! course of antibiotics and meloxidyl and if no change in 5 days to go back.

The lump disappeared, however we had a bloody scab instead. not a problem it started to get smaller so all good.

Last week Thursday/ Friday noticed the the scab wasn't there is was just blood (not bleeding though) (about the size of a 5p) yesterday the lump is back but this time under the skin.

My problem is the wound starts to go tacky and try to scab but doesnt. (i'm not sure if this is due to movemnet on Ruth's part, cleaning on Ruth's part or cleaning by another piggy, or something entirely different)

We are going back to vets, just wondered if anyone had any ideas on how to form a scab?

any ideas or what it could be?

I suspect that the underlying problem hasn't been dealt with and the wound keeps reopening as a result. It could possibly be an infection, a foreign body or something more serious such as a tumour. Lets hope the vet can shine some light on it. Let us know what they say please

thank you, is there anything I can do to try and keep it clean? i'm reluctant to bathe it as it is an open wound.

Will let you know.

I'm wondering, especially if the lump has returned, if there is an underlying issue (abscess? Cyst?) that is still present and causing the wound not to heal properly. Any internal pressure, as from an abscess, can produce a wound that continues to leak, as it is under pressure from the inside. Is there only blood/ooze coming from the un-scabbed wound? Is there any kind of odor? Any pus?

there is only blood. i tried to upload a photo but my phone doesnt like the internet! no pus no odour, just blood!

this morning it is tacky with fur attached which i dont want to pull out if it is starting to heal.

lump is coming out now to.

at vets 5.40 this evening!

hello, sorry for late reply.

Vet thinks that whatever it is its ulcerated (sp?) so trying septrin antibiotics for a few days with a view to removing after. vet wanted to remove on Friday but i'm not happy with surgery on a Friday due to the weekend. So surgery to remove lump will be on Monday.
