First time in 4 years of owning 18 guinea pigs one of my guinea pigs was chirping tonight!^)

I couldnt tell you who it was but one of them for sure was doing it!x)

I actually thought a bird had got into the house?/

To the guinea pig that was chirping I am very glad you were happy tonight :(|)

My Fermi was chirping in the middle of the night a few days ago! I've heard the chirping about 7 times, and every time it was during the night! It does sound so much like a bird! It's a very interesting thing they do :)

So it was definitely because they were happy? Or are you just guessing? Could it have been for any other reason? Or maybe just totally random?

Sorry for all the questions, I'm just really interested in why they do this, there is a lot of conflicting evidence.

whenever i watch vids of this on youtube and have a piggie out with me he will always freeze and crouch down dunno if its just rocky but it could be a warning of somekind :)

When I went into the kitchen they are all popcorning around looking for food, I honestly thought a bird had got into the house it was that loud! Even my rabbit Lola woke up and she only wakes up when she wants to:(|)

They all seemed very happy at the time, I have a feeling it was Sadie or Rosie they are always making noise:(|)

what does a chirping piggie sound like, never heard it, mine popcorn though well star my old girl tries bless her...x)x)

My girlies chirp (sing) only at night though.

The first time me and my OH heard it we thought it was a car alarm haha. It's such a strange noise.

Any ideas why they do this? x x

My piggies chirp sometimes ,they seem to do it more in the Spring, dont know why. When one chirps all the others stop what they are doing to listen, thenjust carry on as normal. They dont seem to be afraid, just curious.

I always thought chirping was a happy noise - it sounds happy - but someone else on another guinea pig forum suggested it wasn't :^- One of my pigs, Amy did it! Its a peculiar sound! But so cute!

I'm confused as to what all the different noises are - I've heard Amy make a really weird sound like a bird, but she seemed happy at the time (she was hoping I had food). It didn't sound distressed, like Glinda when I go to pick her up, or in pain like when they have injections.

Does anyone have a recording of 'chirping'?

I have sometimes heard that the chirping could be a sign of distress. For instance, in the wild, if the Cavy saw a predator approaching, it would chirp like a bird, then the whole colony would join in, then all fall silent.
It was a warning, apparently. But I'm not 100% sure, it's just what I was told by an experienced breeder.

My girls chirp ocassionally they did it last night it woke me up it didn't wake my hubby up but I did to go and tell the girls to be quiet. :))

Perhaps Amy was like "Quick, gals, the food is here!" :))

Yes perfectly sure, they are not distressed in any way at all. They are just asking me to hurry up and give them there food.

Are you sure they're chirping? For instance, my guinea pigs make wheeky-chirpy noises when they want food, which tbh I would describe as chirping if I hd nothing else to go by, but I don't think that's the "chirping" most people mean when they refer to guinea pigs. It's a very rare sound...
