Woa ! I feel sorry for the original owners though, they didn't do it for malicious reasons and tried to give them away. I think we can all relate to this lol

"We could have eaten them or put them out. But they are too cute, too friendly to do such a thing. I love them; they are adorable and very, very spoiled.”

Blimey, imagine the noise at dinner time...

All jokes aside, I often wonder when I hear these horror stories how it didn't occur to the owners after the first litter that seperating the genders might be an idea?! It's not rocket science, after all. Non-malicious intent or not, I do hope the law does something about them and prevents them keeping any other animals again since they're clearly not capable of caring for them adequately.

I agree Fweeper. It does seem incredible that they couldnt tell the genders. They must have known about vets ...

It says they are being investigated, so hopefully some kind of sanction will be put in place to protect any future pets (or to prevent them from being purchased in the first place.) I suspect there is more to this story than meets the eye and that there might be an animal hoarding situation or a couple leading a very reclusive, off-the-grid lifestyle, otherwise I can't see how the support of a vet or an online sexing guide or SOMETHING wasn't thought of before the numbers got that high!

Wow, poor little things. It's a shame as the owners seem like they had the best intentions. Sometimes situations can get out of hand despite your best efforts, but some aren't aware that there is help around. At least it's a safe ending for everyone involved.

They came from Alaska and didn't really use the internet, which they've said they regret. One of them said they'd rather face the present legal consequences than have the situation stay as it was

"The couple had just moved to the Milton-Freewater area from Alaska, and were unaware of resources to help with the animals. Nor do the Hoskinses use social media, another place to ask questions of a community, she added."

 Oh my goodness! This is unbelievable. I feel so sorry for all those piggies! The owners and volunteers of the shelter must be freaking out right now.

Wish I was close enough to adopt a pair. Hopefully they all find homes soon. :(

I feel sorry for everyone in this, rather resucue cleanup, the pigs and the owners.

But what I do wonder is...although the owners seem to have gotten into that situation from lack of a clue rather than malicious intent. Why did they not seek help before the number got anywhere near that high? For example by 20 they would have known this was turning into an out of control issue. They didn't know about rescues....but why did they not ask for help in the local pet store when they went to buy supplies? Surely the store staff could have told them about a rescue? Or at least recommend they take them to a vet to be sexed and then split up?
