Wow!

Apologies if this is a long story but.... I have always said my Beatrice is the most 'human like' pig I have known. This week before I went to bed and turned the lights off I gave them all a pea flake as a treat. The next night when I went to the light switch Bea immediately led the other two in a charge to the corner, awaiting another treat. So of course I caved and the pea flakes came out. I can't believe how quickly she created and got me to participate in this new routine. Anyway I thought no, I'm not being manipulated into giving pea flakes every night so last night at light switch time I got some coriander (which they all love) instead. The other two were happy to take it but Miss Beatrice REFUSED to take the coriander and stayed in her place, holding out for her pea flake. I'm sorry to say she lost out as Merry snatched the coriander and the pea flakes didn't make an appearance! I will try to stay strong tonight in this battle but you need a will of iron with these creatures!

This sounds like a familiar story….. My OH started giving 1 pea flake as we went to bed, and he has caved pretty much every night since. Pigs 1 Humans 0!

I tried! I offered romaine lettuce instead which is her ABSOLUTE favourite. And she did the same thing....ignored it and sat waiting for the pea flake. I just cannot believe she does this. So yes, I did cave in. But how could I not reward such thinking and determination?! She just amazes me. My marvellous Bea

Celebrate! She is obviously bright and you are communicating - this builds trust and if there comes a time you have to do something unpopular (like syringe-feeding a poorly one) they will know from experience that you always try your best for them

PS: You might find that with a little tweaking of the snack treat this technique can also work for husbands...
