Seems like we are getting somewhere! The boys came out to get their treats and came right to the edge to eat it. I held Josh for a while and he ate the treats out my hands.

I put him back and the boys came out again but it's seems that Josh is bullying rogan. Everytime he comes near the treats he nudges him away.

Josh also jumped up on the top on the inbuilt sleep quarters in the hutch!

Is this progress and should I be worried about Josh behaviour?

I posted something similar earlier thinking Bea was bullying Bumble but apparently its just them establishing the dominant piggy so it may all be normal behaviour. We took out the house earlier so they have no choice but to get a bit used to us but they are still quite edgy. Bumble seems to be less timid though

Yeah rogan is very timid is like frozen in my arms but Josh wanted to investigate! But he tried to run off abs we have a old vic house with loads of holes in Walls and floor boards! Picked him up and he squealed! Felt so bad! X

That behaviour is very normal. Guinea pigs live in herd and always establish a hierarchy, a process that is repeated in new territory or when a new piggy joins. During the dominance phase, piggies establish the shape of their relationship - how far the top piggy can push the underpiggy and how far he underpiggy allow itself to be pushed. Dominance looks a lot like bullying and can contain some pretty dramatic screaming from the underpiggy, but it follows a strict protocol.

You can find more about boar (and sow) behviour at the top of the behaviour section.

Ye they are two boys and Josh defo rules the piggy house.

If Josh is scared he will sit on top of rogan.

Just so worried he will turn on rogan

There are a few tricks to make things easier:

1) LOTS of space - 2x5 ft minimum, more is even better

2) Have everything in twos, huts, bowls, water bottles hay racks etc. Each thing preferably well away from the same item, so bully boy can't rule it all.

I'm of out tomorrow to get extras of everything! Don't want them falling out xx

Wow it's getting better boys had cuddles with me and Josh was looking at me talking while rogan was still frozen. And then Josh heard a bag and came running put and took the hay off me! Woo hoo my boys are getting us to me!

Think we've got to get a second hidey house... is it normal to see a spot of blood while they are sorting out hierarchy?

No it's not normal - if blood has been shed then you need to separate them immediately! Guinea pigs can be very brutal when they fight and could quite possibly kill one another.....

You need to separate and seek advice on how and if indeed they can ever be re-bonded?

Hi Lady Kelly,

Was just wondering how your situation was going? Have been quite worried since you said you saw blood while they were sorting out the hierarchy?

Hope everything is ok - did you separate the two? Or at least get to the bottom of where the blood came from?

Hi Sodapops I don't know if the blood was while sorting out the hierarchy, just saw a drop dried on the inner of the chube. Looks like bumble has a little scratch on the top of her ear. We haven't separated them but got Bumble a separate house... funny thing is now Bea has let her back into the other one!
