I've been doing alot of resurch on the Peruvian breed, but the one thing I have heard of and still can't find out how too is 'wrapping' their coats... it has intreged me for some time now, so I thought I would ask on here as I'm interested in doing it to my two when I get them.

wrappings not necessary unless your planning on showing them? I have Peruvians and alpacas and keep the coat longish, under trim the bottom layer and leave the top longer and have no problems :)

I do the same, I just keep a long top layer and then hack the underneath and bum end off so that he's easy to keep clean and dry but still maintains some of the look of a long haired piggy.

I keep my perus' coats short in summer (as they are much happier without wearing the equivalent of a Siberian winter coat) and let top layer grow a bit longer in winter, although I still keep it short at the bum end and not let it spill on the ground so they can run, popcorn and do all the piggy stuff to their heart's delight.

Please be aware that we are a non-breeding, non-showing forum.

I would second that, short on the bum for long haired breeds is great particularly for stinky boys as it's easier for them to keep clean and reduces hay tangle etc.

In summer a trim is the best thing as I don't think I'd like to wander around dressed in a duvet and I'm sure the piggies don't like the equivalent either!

Wrapping is only really done for pigs who are shown to stop them messing up their fancy 'do' and they are often grown with coats much longer than any piggy would naturally keep. Like Wiebke says we a re a non breeding/showing group so for pet piggies, keeping their flowing locks in a tidy trim is best :)

Never heard of wrapping pigs for shows , didn't know was done?

But then again I have never been to a show,

all pigs to come into my place with long hair, get a hair cut ! Perhaps Megan is talking about towel wrapping?

Towel wrapping is where you wrap a towel round your Guinea pig if it is excessively fidgety and you have problems giving it medicines, or if you're vet is going to do dental work ect .

Just in case that's what you're talking about Megan here is a * Tube link showing you how to do it,

Though be wary of you tube links showing you how to do things with Guinea pigs some of them are totally wrong , and in some cases harmful!
But this is a good video

I'm even worse with my sheltie, I get the clippers out on her back end and give her a grade 2 all over her bum :)) She seems to prefer it that way, less weight to carry around as well! Unless you're showing (as others have mentioned, this is a non-showing, non-breeding forum) then hacking it all off is normally the best thing to do.
