OMG I'm so silly. I took Orson to the vets and we went in and it was the wrong vet. I normally see a guy there but hadn't specified so I saw a lady vet instead.

I did say that I was unsure as I had never seen her before and that the other one had been recommended to me. I said I knew he was very good and she was offended :red. I asked about her experience - it seems vast and she knew an awful lot about guineas. I have left Orson there for his op - being done by her - but I am now left feeling a bit scared. She does the op the same way as her partner and that was all okay.

She really took me through the risks. She did say she hadn't lost hardly any at all but that it was a higher risk op for a guinea than a cat (but not a dog?)

How could I have been so stupid?

Fingers and paws crossed for today and i hope all goes well with orson! Apart from one day 3 days later after jives op when he was sad and had 24 hours worry with him. The rest of the time you would not have known anything had happened to him!

Mork had 2 days of non eating after his op where I syringed him. But you wouldn't have known to look at him down there at all.

I am in the process of scrubbing his cage clean as can be and fitting lovely soft vet bed for him.

SCARED!

The reason Jive had a funny day was because we allowed him to use a ramp! which meant he jumped and pulled at his bits which made him sore bless him - I would remove any ramps if and when i put another piggy through the op.

Hope all goes well
Marty just looked sorry for himself after his
fingers crossed
X

I'm sure he'll be just fine, I know you won't have left him with her if you felt she wasn't competent enough to do the surgery. Will keep an eye out for some good news later on today. xx

Good idea about the ramp! Going to cabletie a grid over the ramp access and keep him upstairs for a few days while he recovers.

He also really works hard to pull at the bars to get to the girls downstairs and I have been worried about his teeth - this way he wont be wanting to do that as he wont be able to see them. Takes more worry away.

He'll have a 2 x 2 c&c for a few days - that's okay for a short time right?

She did worry me by saying he's a stressy guinea pig and sometimes the stress it just too much.

He IS very stressy from his previous life - hes always thinking he's going to be killed and is very very fiesty trying to escape. He had it hard for a few months and it shows.

Laura I had a good talk with her about her previous experience and success rate which is very very high (only ever lost 2 from this op). But it threw me off as I didn't know her at all and then went on to grill her.

Will keep all fingers crossed for your handsome boy today and hope all goes well.

We kept jive in a 2x2 c and c for the first few days, he won't feel up to running laps and what not and will make it easier for you to clean!

I can understand your worry.

I have a Pug who had a tumour removed a few months back, it was a really difficult surgery he said and Pugs don't take well at all to anaesthetic and some have been known to not make it through so you can imagine what I went through but as said before, if she really did appear to be that bad, you wouldn't have left him with her. This was the first time I used this vet too (glad I did though, he is cute! ;) )

I know what it is like afterwards though with things going over in your head.

Try not to worry and I hope you have good news soon. x

Fingers and paws crossed, that everything will go swimmingly! I'm sure she is just as good or maybe better than her partner! :))!

She is a women afterall :))!

Hugs to you, I hope you hear very shortly xx.

Okay just had a call to say he's round from the op and eating. Ready for collection after 3.30pm. She said everything went well.

Keep your fingers crossed for the next few weeks of healing nicely. Bless my poor little man.

Well he's home and back in his cage. Quick question. His carrier had lots of wee in it when I took him out, he was a bit damp. Is that likely to infect him? I was hoping to keep him dry but he must have been in the carrier for a wee while to have made it so wet.

Fantastic the wee fella is home and okay, keeping everything crossed for a trouble free recovery.

Thanks it's such a worry. he does seem in pain to me - more than Mork was. He's sat down with his back to me and is ignoring us. Going to start with Metacam tomorrow as per the vets instructions.

He's eating some veg at the moment - not the stuff I thought he would eat though but at least he IS eating.

Thanks to everyone for kind messages. I can't go through this again - it's too stressful!

I'm sure he will be fine. When my Mimsi had an op last year, he was spaced out when he came home and every so often would go off balance. He recovered fine and I'm sure Orson will be back to normal soon. Makes my eyes water just thinking about it! Orson will be very grateful to his mummy in a few weeks. Hang in there hun..

Thanks babe I will. He will be over the moon when he's all better and all sterile.

Glad to hear that his op went well, I'm sure that he will heal in no time and he is just wondering where his precious man hood has gone! :)

What vets did you take him too after?

Orson will come round - if he is eating on the same day as his op that is a good sign. Some piggies don't come round from an op as easily as others, or not even the same after two ops.

Sending my vibes to poor Orson!

Hope orson is feeling better soon! I know he will be :) when he is in with all those girlies! it is a very nerve wracking day when they go in! have a nice glass of wine to relax

No wine in :(

I went to the same practice Sam but saw a different vet.

I see my usual vet in 2 days for the post op check and he possibly did the surgery, hope so. I'll find out Thursday.

I am sure I offended the lady vet - but I did say I just needed to know more about her - I thought we had worked it out.

I'm sure that she has done a good job, but i do understand your concerns as if you see the same vet everytime you have peace of mind. But all the vets should work closely together so I'm sure that he was on hand too and that i bet she has had experince dealing with piggys if the other vet has them in regularly, as she wouldnt have done the op if she wasnt confident. But still i would be the same as you and want to see my usual vet. :))

I hope little Orson is feeling ok now. :)

Glad Orson came through the op okay, fingers crossed for a speedy recovery

Oh my, already!? I've not been on for a few days and now Orson is snipped?! Fingers and paws crossed for a speedy recovery! Bo sends his best and says he knows what Orson is going through...
