Hiya,

Ive been reading a lot on here most of you use fleeces for your guin'z,was just wondering a few thing -

Do you use them just as bedding? or
Use on the whole bottom of cage run?
How often do you wash them?and in what?
Are they better for guin'z than sawdust?
What sort of fleece-baby fleece?or is there special pet fleeces available?

Any info of this matter would be greatfully received!xx>>>

Thanks x

I use fleece on the whole bottom of my c&c cage. Ive got washable absorbent bed pads under the fleece which work wonders. I change the inco pads once a week and the fleece twice a week. I wash my fleece/inco pads in normal washing powder or soda crystals as they are good now and then to get rid of stubborn stains!

I buy any fleece that looks nice or takes my fancy, i dont think you have to have a certain type. :)

I mainly changed to fleece as one of my pigs had an allergy to carefresh/megazorb bedding and since ive changed his problem has gone away, also fleece is cool in the summer and warm in the winter and its lovely and soft on their feet. Its really easy to clean, i sweep the cage out twice a day with a dustpan and brush and then before it goes in the wash i sweep the fur off with a fur remover brush.

I love fleece and i only started using it in February.

You also save money as the fleece and inco pads are reusable. :))

I used to use shavings and hay- rather messy, we then changed to vetbed on top of puppy pads and towels very soft, comfy and cosy and not alot of mess, they still had hay to hide and burrow into. Changed every 3rd day. During the summer now that the weather is warmer (haha) they have been put onto fleece again its on top of puppy pads and towels with hay, alot less mess nice and cosy and to clean just take off the hay shake the bits onto the garden and pop into the w/machine, just soap powder no fabric softner, washed and dried within the hour. Changed every other day. So much easier. Our girls love just flopping down and going to sleep on soft fleeces. By the way I buy fleeces at primark (5ftx2ft) approx for £5 and some brilliant designs. (100% polyester the really fluffy ones)

oooo thanks girls,I'm defo gunna try that,i been thinking about it for a while, now its worth giving a god

ye you are right about the mess,my boys back kick the sawdust right out of the cage,i have to hoover 3-4 times a day!haha

so every 2-3 days change the fleece, whats the inco pads?where can i get the reusable ones?

These are the ones i bought:

[ame]http://www.amazon.co.uk/Washable-Absorbent-Bed-Pad-90cms/dp/B000MES1W8/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=kitchen&qid=1281129877&sr=8-1[/ame]

I got four for my 4x2 c&c cage, as i have one spare and change one.

You could also try puppy pads if your just thinking of trying fleece and then buy the inco pads. I bought a pack of 30 puppy pads in B&M for £4.99 a week ago. They are quite big, i use them for floortime just to protect the laminate floor in high wee places.

:))

I use fleece and washable incontinence pads in my 3 x 4 c & c. Using fleece means I can give my pigs this amount of space (3 pigs) which I couldn't if I used shavings or simliar- due to cost, storage and disposal. I have a litter tray which has a layer of megazorb and lots of hay.
I change the hay at least once a day and the megazorb every 3 days.
I change the fleece every 3 days. I change the inco pads in the heavy use areas every 3 days and the ones that don't get so wet every 6 days. I clean the correx with disinfectant spray every 6 days.
I do a poop scoop and general tidy up twice a day.
I give the fleece and any cosies/ beds a good shake outside then fold and brush in sections. Probably takes a good 20 minutes. I have to do this on the kitchen floor so need to wash this over afterwards. I wash the fleece and pads with non-bio liquid (never softener or it won't wick away the wee). Sometimes they need a quick roll over with a sticky lint remover when they're dry.

I wouldn't say fleece is an easy option but it suits me and my piggies seem pretty happy on it too. :) I buy cheap fleeces although I find slightly thicker ones make brushing easier (£3.99 from Dunelm Mill).

thanks soo much,i love you guys on here, all the infos great,it really helps me out,and has taught me stuff i didnt know!

my OH just suggested putting a shoe box or somthing like that lined with fleece and see if they jump in and like it first x

For floortime I put down some pvc tablecloth material and throw a fleece on top. Because they're only using it for an hour or so I don't need to put anything under it to absorb wee as the fleece is enough. I put boxes and tubes or a big pile of hay (on a couple of sheets of newspaper to make it easy to roll up and throw away) on top of the fleece. Might be another way to try it out without commiting yourself.

Mine love their fleece!

Joey popcorns every time i change or sweep out and Gizmo loves to laze about on it. :))

Good idea, you could buy some fleece from the £1 shop or Shaws and see if they like it first.

:)

Let us know how you get on.

Aww sweet, hope they like fleece so you can convert.

HAHAHA! That is one converted piggie! ;)

I recommend that you either use puppy pads or cheap towels underneath the fleece for a little while but if you are happy with it, get some inco pads. They are costly to begin with, but when you think they can last a week before washing, can be washed 200 times etc the cost over the lifetime is minimal.

haha i know i was laughing when i seen him,he must love it cause normally when i try to take pics of him he runs off haha
