Teenage Guinea Pig
hello I'm not sure if I'm posting this in the right place but just thought I would update you all on what I am trying to do about this product and how you can all help.
This time last year my Guinea pigs were prescribed this xenex ultra spot on treatment for my itchy piggies. And to cut a long story short some of you may remember me posting a thread on here (I'm not sure how I post a link to that thread on this thread maybe someone could help) but my frankie had a severe allergic reaction to this spot on.
At the time I was blaming myself because if I had done my research before using it, I would have seen that the majority of comments about this product are very negative.
So I went on amazon and left a bad review about this product as you can leave reviews on amazon without actually purchasing the product from them. And because I was in such a state I asked a question on their ask question page and asked if my guinea pig could die. I got lots of replies from people who had used this product on their pets and they had all had this bad reaction to it. One lady in peticular was really nice and helpful she had also had piggies with reactions. She said she had contacted local rescues and local places to get the word out about this product and said I should do the same. I asked local rescues to post it on their Facebook pages to help spread the word and I was filling in an online form to direct.gov.uk where you can report things like this but because frankie wasn't in the clear I couldn't answer all the questions at that time. My vet also contacted the manufacturer to tell them what had happened.
So last night I found the box in the cupboard and started researching it again. To my horror it is STILL available! And there are even more reviews saying their pet had had this allergic reaction! But I did find that Nicola (the lady who I had spoken to over amazon ask question page) had actually managed to get an online pet shop called mrpets.co.uk to stop selling this product! I saw her review of this retailer saying how they had taken this product off the shelves after she'd asked them to and I searched for it on their website and yep it's gone!

I was really happy and this has actually inspired me to push forward with this again. So at 3 o clock this morning I emailed amazon asking them to please take it off sale. I received a reply saying that they are forwarding my email to the relevant department and will be back in touch with me. ( hopefully they keep their word and email back)
If I could ask you all a huge favour.
If you or your piggies have any Facebook, instagram, twitter pages or know anyone who does please could you post a picture of the product and a short message asking everyone not to buy or use xenex ultra spot on even if it is prescribed by a vet or bought over the counter or online. And just warn people of the dangers that it can and does kill animals (rabbits, mice, rats and piggies have all been affected) I signed up to some other forums to warn people too. But all I ask is if you could just help me raise awareness of this product. The more people that boycott this product the better. You could always leave a review on amazon warning people of the dangers like I said you don't have to buy the product from amazon to leave a review but I know on some sites you do.
I will be messaging sellers on eBay too later.
If one lady can stop mrpets.co.uk from selling this product surely if we all club together we can make a change too.
I think this shows that this online store actually cares about people and animals and not just profit I just hope others follow in the footsteps of mrpets.co.uk and I am actually proud of them for making this change and the lady Nicola for taking her time to make a stand for her guineas.
Thank you
