Hi guys my new rescue boy has scabs in his furr I know he has been treated for mites before and seems ok but i have got some Xeno 200 from the vet as part of my piggie first aid is it is worth using as a preventative? alternatively I have some spot on stuff. i have never had any pigies with mites so not sure on this one. Hes has been bathed with lice and easy and second time a few weeks later with neem and manuka *** his skin was a bit flaky. can you let me know what you think. Also the box only has dosage but do I brush in the spray or anything? he seems ok in himself but just a tiny bit uncomfy when being groomed but there are no flakes just these old scabs kinda half way up the hair ?/

Hi you say he has scabs , is he scratching more than usual, has he got a cage mate .
The reasons I ask are that there are various reasons why he has scabs an parisites is only one of them , if it where a parasitic infection caperbal of producing scabs , you would certainly notice violent scratching .

Also xeno 200 is a spray , and may not be the best thing to use near scabs or broken skin , you would be better with xeon 450 , it is a spot on and is less lightly to irritate .

Scabs without scratching could be any number of things , that’s why I asked if he had a mate as it could be bight wounds .

If you could be more specific , i.e. does he obsessively scratch / are the scabs a circular with a seemingly unaffected part in the centre , the fact that they are crusty could indicate a fungal infection

the scabs are circular too

He is a lone boar and doesn't seem to be scratching at all. there doesn't seem to be broken skin at all the scabs are kind of stuck on his long hair but not near his skin almost like the hair has grown and the flakes/scabs are stuck round the hair but I can't see any marks on the skin where the hair they are on has grown from? so hard to explain. there are no lumps on the skin either? I have shampooed him for possible fungal and the small dandruff flakes that were there when we first go him have gone but still the random scab tops?
