Can anyone recommend a place to get Xeno 450 tubes fairly reasonably? I have been looking online and it seems to be really pricey, around £20 for 6 tubes! I'd be interested to know if anyone can recommend a cheaper place please :)

Thanks

It's expensive wherever you get it from. In fact £20 is probably about the cheapest i've seen it for. I was talking to Simon, my vet, last week about it. Between us, Ellie and I have about 30 piggies, so its just far too expensive for us to use, so Simon has given me Panomec which I can give them orally.

£20 is cheap? Oh dear! I thought we may be looking at a tenner or so, but as I have 10 pigs to treat, I'm a bit alarmed at the price of all that Ivomec! Perhaps an oral administration is the way to go. Thanks for the tip!

Thanks Lincolnsmommy, that was the site I looked at before I think, with the p&p it worked out just under £19 which is the cheapest so far.

Didn't realise they did it without the extra P&P, it calculated £1.99 so that's handy, thanks!

Louise, no, but Boomer possibly has, and I haven't had them done for ages, so I think it would be prudent to do it. I don't really want to do it if I don't need to, but wonder if I should give them all a one-off treatment every once in a while. I used to take them all up to Vedra every three months for the worming and ivomecing, then made the decision to not do it as I didn't want them building up immunities to the stuff.

Before I knew better, I get Xeno50 (for small / baby pigs) from the vets and it was £35.99 because they only sell it in boxes of 9! I only had one pig....

Well it's cheaper than paying for vets consultation if you are sure your piggy has mites. Ours charges seperately for each pig although he does reduce the charge a bit for the second pig. He treated all mine with injections and they had to go back three times and only one of the piggies had the mite.grrrr I've bought the Xeno 450 now and am going to treat mine myself - less painful for the piggies than the horrible injections too.:)

I personally do not believe in treating all pigs regularly for mites as a precaution as they can build an immunity to the ivermectin, thus rendering it less effective when they really need it. Two of mine have had mites and were treated successfully and I never treated their cagemate and they didn't get mites.

I dont always agree with Vedras methods....

Yes I paid around £19 from a different online site, but as the exact same product from my vet was going to be £34 for 6 pipettes, I thought this was a good price.

Thanks for the replies everyone.

Lorna, thanks for the link, I'll look into this too.

Fi, that's the reason why I decided to stop treating them routinely. I can't say that Vedra is wrong, but I tend to agree about building a resistance to these things if used unnecessarily, so we haven't been for quite a while.

I got 4 tubes from my vet for £18, but VETUK does them for around £18 for 6 tubes (plus p&p) so a bit cheaper. I've just treated my 4 as two of them have mites. They have to be treated again in 2 weeks, then again after 4!

I've also just scrubbed their hutches out and washed their fur baskets etc. I'm knackered! Good luck!
