We have found out Jimmi has mites, so we've got some xeno 450 for them however was just wondering-
1) how much would we put on both of them? - Meeka weighs 925g and Jimmi weighs 1175g?
2) Meeka usually grooms Jimmi after any treatments are put on so was wondering would this still be okay on them both even if she does do this?

Thank you!

How do you know he has mites & what type of mites are they? Mange or sellnick mites cannot be seen by the naked eye. They are best treated with Ivermectin injections as they live under the skin. Running lice or hay mites can be seen & can be treated topically with the correct shampoos. It's always best to get your piggies looked at by a vet to diagnose the correct parasite & recommend treatment.

I agree with Poppy's Mum that injections are better, sorry not with it today, I just assumed you had been given it by the vet.

:D Guinea Pig Magazine sell a handy little device (the Bug Buster, £2.99 plus P+P) , with two magnifying lenses, which is specifically designed for the correct identification of mites.
Often treating for mites with shop-bought products can make the problem worse. Always see a vet first.

Really? Oh my word lol :D I've looked at hay mites under a microscope, the little blighters waved at me lol :D

Xeno 450 is the right stuff to use if they are running lice, but they can also be treated with anti-parasitic shampoo (e.g. Lice n Easy from Gorgeous Guineas, or a human headlice shampoo like Lyclear). Ivermectin (the active ingredient in Xeno 450) can also be given by mouth, so the grooming won't harm Meeka, but may reduce the effectiveness of Jimmi's treatment. I would recommend getting a positive id of the "visitors" from a vet, and then you can be sure that you have the right treatment!
