Hi
I'm a relatively new guinea owner and my poor Muffin has scabs :(

The vet has prescribed Xeno 450 spot on, could anyone tell me any more about what this means hes says something about mites (unfortunately I couldn't take her so i have a vague description from a well meaning mother!)
Thanks,
Cat x

Mites are very common and Xeno is ivermectin which is the perfect treatment for it. Won't take long for piggy to recover. Were you given enough for more than one treatment?

I have recently used this on Lennie and it works well, a kinder method than injection :) I used one tube on day one and another tube on day eleven. Lennie is perfectly fine now :)

Good good. You should see improvement quite quickly. O0

2 treatments, 10 days apart should be enough, although sometimes stubborn infections do need three treatments.

Xeno 450 is a really good product and easy to apply but make sure you follow the guidelines that came with the packet or follow the vets advice for the number of treatments needed.

It's also worth taking a look at the gorgeous guineas website as there is information on there about mites / fungal infections. Many people on here use their products such as the shampoo

Lice n Easy which helps to get rid of mites and the eggs. O0

All gps have mites in the system, but sometimes when they are stressed or unwell the mites proliferate and cause irritation. Some pigs are more prone than others. I have had a lot of pigs that have lived to 6 or 7 years with no mite problems.

Mites are species specific and can only live for a short time off the host body.there fore they cannot be found in hay. They do not always affect pen/cage mates.

I also use Zeno 450 and have found it safe and affective.I use one pippette on day one and another on day 10. I start at the nape of the neck and put the solution at intervals down the spine.

Try not to get any on your own skin and wash your hands after use.

Hello,

I did get the same product for my guinea pigs today.
He told me to repeat it after 14 days. Is that okay or shall I do it on day 10?
He was not sure if my gp has really mites or something else caused the hairloss. It doesn´t scratch too much, so I think it will be fine.

Thanks,

Iris
