I have searched some threads on here re Xeno 450 and most people are saying it doesn't work on lice yet on the box it says it is for lice. Does anyone know if it does work or not?

It may be the method of administration that determines the effectiveness of ivermectin against lice - for example, oral and injected forms do not deal with the lice since they do not feed off the blood. Topically, it can work. However, even though the ivermectin may kill the lice and apparently do the job, the dead lice must still be removed from the coat - perhaps one reason for the popularity of shampooing, which removes most of them right from the start.

For a spot-on treatment for lice, Advantage is considered the most effective - but this appears to be a relatively rare choice in UK.

From Guinea Lynx:

Ivermectin is used to rid animals and humans of many internal and external (blood sucking) parasites . Lice and hair mites which do not ingest the blood of the host are not affected by ivermectin administered orally or by injection (See notes at bottom of page).

And from http://www.guinealynx.info/lice.html:

Ivermectin works best on lice when it is used topically. This is because lice are biting insects, not sucking insects.

As far as I know, xeno 450 works on mites. My vet said it would be fine to use on my piggies. Not sure about lice. I have invested in some nit combs for the piggies, just as good.
