Hi everyone, I had some Xeno Spot On treatment from my vet a few months back for one of my guinea pigs, and it worked well for her mite treatment and it all cleared up. Well now a few months down the line i have run out...but want to keep some in incase i get an outbreak again.. and i Just wondered if it can this be bought from anywhere except the vet? If so where do you guys get it from? or can you recommend another brand that works well from the shops?
If you guys only get it from the vets will take them for appointments each...., but it will be less time consuming if i don't have to make appointments etc.

Thanks guys :)

Yes you don't need to buy from a vet. I buy mine online, i think i used vetuk and it was alot cheaper than the vet was charging. I look around online for the best price- but i think they are all pretty similar now.

Hi, does Xeno work for lice too? I think the rescue piggy we have just taken on has lice, which means it's likely that our other piggy probably now also has them too :( I've previously used Beaphar ivermectin spot on and it's always worked for me, however if Xeno is a vet-recommended treatment I'd like to order some.

Oh I've just seen that it does - but how is it different to the Beaphar stuff? The main ingredient is the same but the price is quite a lot different. Am I missing something?
Do people use one pipette per piggy of the Xeno 450? For guineas over 750g the Beaphar recommends 2 pipettes, I'm guessing it's different concentration.
It works out cheaper to use 2 of the Beaphar ones as it's around £6 for 4 pipettes - however if there's a reason not to use it, I won't! (I've never had any problems with it previously)

(we also already have some anti-parasite shampoo, is that worth a try first or will it require multiple attempts? The new piggy is very nervous and I'd like to avoid over-stressing her in her first few days if she can be treated without a bath)

i dont know. have never used the cheaper one so dont know the diffrence. i just know the xeno worked before so i dont want to try a cheaper one if it fosnt work...so would be intrested also... :-)

Years ago I was prescribed the xeno from the vets as the beaphar wasn't readily available at the time. But I have used beaphar successfully since, although I think the xeno may be stronger- I'm not sure?
But both have worked for me&I can easily get the beaphar one from the little local pet supplies shop in the village.
But for some reason the xeno seems to be preferred by a lot of owners. X

I've used it before and it's worked, I'm just interested in the difference and if Xeno is worth the extra money. I'm pretty sure the Beaphar is less concentrated as piggies 750g or over need 2 pipettes. It's quite a lot cheaper so using 2 isn't a problem (I think Wilko sell it for just under £5 for 2 treatments - 4 pipettes), but I've never had to repeat it. (Also I can buy it locally so it's a bit easier in that sense.)

Hi Guys. The Beaphar product is similar but even if you use two pipettes as instructed there is still less ivermectin in each application. If you buy xeno from vetuk it's about £18 for 6 so at about £3 a piggie I think it's cheaper than the Beaphar. The price may be out of date so it is worth checking but if you have a chunky pig I would have more faith in the Xeno, especially as it is vet approved. HTH x

I have used the Beaphar product and if I am honest it doesn't have enough product in it to do anything maybe just keep mites at a bay for a while. Xeno does have more in.

Although the injections do rid the mites alot better, although if possible I try not to take them for them.

From what I can understand spot on treatment won't kill lice as they don't bite the skin which they need to in order for it to kill them, bathing is better option for lice, 2 baths one week a apart. Spot on kills mites, but I prefer to use the bottled ivermectin which is stronger then the pipettes and works out cheaper. I buy the same stuff my vet gave me online works out cheaper :)
