I tried to get a video of this, but it's hard to pet a piggy and hold the phone steady at the same time. When I scratch Kahless on her shoulders and back she will stretch out and wiggle her front paws while yawning. Sometimes she will stay still stretched out for awhile and sometimes she gets antsy pretty quick and hops back up. I always thought this meant she really loves getting that spot scratched, but in a youtube video about guinea pig bonding somebody said that guinea pigs never yawn when relaxed and it's always a sign of stress. Is that correct? She never seems stressed out before or after a big stretching yawn. Both piggies often sleeps with their eyes closed and yawn, stretch, or both after waking up. It seems like a happy behavior to me, but I don't want to be accidentally stressing her out when I'm trying to make her happy.

My pigs yawn when they first wake up and stretch out too, my rats do it aswell, it's nothing bad, people talk rubbish. People will anyalise to the tiniest detail. 👍

If what I am picturing is what is happening, then it doesn’t sound to be problem.
Piggies do yawn at each other to show their teeth and that is a sign of aggression but I don’t think what you are describing is that!

One of my pigs will yawn when she is stretched out an relaxed. In a high-stress situation it can be a way of demonstrating aggression ("Look at my teeth!"), but it's a myth that this is the only reason that piggies will yawn. This sounds more like a chilled out yawn than aggression. It seems to vary with the pig in question... I've had two pigs who will yawn when they are relaxing at lap time, the other pigs I literally never saw them yawn at all!

Mine yawn when they’re settling down for a nap, or just waking up and having a good stretch.
