Hi I have just got my piggies today. I have 2 boars and they are amazing I can't stop watching them :D One is really out going and one is very shy. I tipped the box we got him in on its side in the cage and he hasn't ventured out yet. Am I best leaving him to make his own way out? We have just left them to settle in. Just keep peeping on them to make sure they are ok. Sorry haven't had guinea pigs before so thought I better ask :D thanks in advance!

Congratulations on your new arrivals.

If it were me I would just leave him in the box for now. He will venture out on his own eventually and giving him space will help him feel more secure.
On the first night we had our three home the smallest (Ruby) wouldn't come out of the cuddle sack so we left her there, and my daughter was concerned she would asphyxiate. I just thought the shock had killed her.
Ruby is now super friendly and wildly outgoing - it just took a her a while to adjust.

I'm sure he will be fine.
It just takes them a while to adjust - new noises, new smells, new environment - but he will be out bouncing around and wheeking for his veggies in no time.

Where did you get your boys from?
How old are they?
Will they be living inside or out?
Can't wait to hear more about them.

He is out now and they are bouncing around the cage. My partner surprised me today and bought me them today from pets at home. He was told they are 9-10 weeks. I have an indoor c &c cage that I have been setting up for a couple of months. I have never had piggies before so for months I have been reading like a crazy lady :D this is my little ginger piggy. I will try to get a picture of my shy little man too :D

Congratulations, it takes a while to come out of their shells. Remember food is an excellent way to gain a pigs trust :) Try hand feeding in a few days while they are in a hidey house offer some food to them, keep talking to them to and they will get used to the sound of your voice. Have a read of this thread, but if you have any questions please just ask How Do I Settle Shy New Guinea Pigs?

Hoping to hear lots more about them.

I will have a read. My shy boy (squiggwood) has now started coming out at meal times. Their cage is right next to the table. He will do anything for food :D My ginger piggy (pig...I know original haha) is in love with my chihuahua. They are best friends. They spend most of the day licking each other through the cage. Pig popcorn and chases my chihuahua getting him to play. It's really cute to watch

When i had my guide dog her and chock loved each other to bits
When she retired at the start of last year i thought i was gonna lose him as i ended up having to give him critical care food from the vet as he wouldn't eat on his own
He lost it and got really sad and nothing i would do would comfort him
He pulled through it though bless him
He got really upset when he called for her and she wouldn't come as she wasn't there anymore and he missed his washes from her
Poor pig

Aww bless him glad he is ok now :) I was worried how my chihuahua would react to them. So glad he loves them too. He has even started sleeping next to the cage at night.
