Five piggies came in from a private sign over yesterday, all are elderlyish...

Ben is a four year old boar who has lived alone for the majority of his life, he is a bit nervous bless him

William is a five and a half year old boy and is so friendly a lovely chap, showing his age a little but we hope to get some weight on him soon he has always lived alone

Balloon and Raikey are a pair of four year old sows...Balloon looks a bit balloonish bless her and Raikey is very thin

Billy who arrived with them is not very well he has a major chest infection and an awful set of teeth the bottom pair overlap in front of the tops the back is overgrown, he is quite unwell at the moment and very underweight hence not asking him to pose for photos. He is on syringe feeds and antibiotics at the moment and hopefully we can get him strong enough to get his teeth sorted, I do not think he could make a long journey and our vet only does teeth under a general which he would not survive at the moment. Fingers crossed for him please.

How sad they have ended up unwanted at there age. I particularly struck by William's good looks. He is adorable.

Fingers, toes and claws crossed for poor Billy! :(

Ben looks very distinguished, and I love Balloon - name and piggy! :))

I hope that with your tlc the piggies will feel better and can enjoy some happy times still.

They were much loved but their owner had not been given the best advice re piggy care. She was very sad to part with them but due to the loss of her husband was not spending so much time at home. She had cared for them since her daughter lost interest several years ago (daughter of 24 years at the time).

Not sure if they will find homes at their ages but are welcome to stay here for life if needs be :)

They are gorgeous, sad that poor Billy is so unwell but he has a good chance with you.

I don't suppose any of these are neutered? Unlikely I know but thought I'd ask. rolleyes

I hope they all setlle soon and start to feel brighter with a few tasty meals inside them.
Everything crossed for Billy. x

Oh poor piggies - glad that they've found you :)

William..............................just gorgeous - those eyes :(

Teresa xx

fingers crossed for their forever homes & billy gets better soon xx

maybe ask around on here for people doing guinea teeth without a GA or get people to recomened a vets that does teeth with out a GA i do know of a great person who has helped my rescue guineas with there teeth problems but he (AP) is a long way from you about 4 hours but was a dentist for 20yrs then trainned in guinea pig teeth for 20yrs he is very very good and doesnt charge if you are intrested i can pm you his number of give you my email address x or the cambridge cavy trust would be closer to you

The CCT is 2-3 hours drive from me none of the vets locally do dentals without GA (I am booked on the CCT dental course in June)

Billy would not have survived the drive and I am very sad to say he passed away last night. His teeth were so bad he was unable to close his mouth properly and had developed a severe chest infection he had a lot of fluid on the lungs coupled with a weight of 587g it was a very long standing problem. I did my best for him but had fears that he was just too far gone with the infection he was comfortable having being given painkillers and other medications diuretic, ab's etc but he just gave up and passed over the bridge. Popcorn free little fella.

The remaining four are doing well and eating a lot! William is a sleepy old gent and lovely to cuddle, Ben is a flighty soul and will take a long time to get adjusted.. to be continued

I am so sorry for Billy and you; it's one of the most gutting things to get a piggy into rescue that is too far gone to be saved. The one that die in view of the oasisin the desert are the hardest deaths to bear.

But I am glad that the others are doing well and will make it!

Neither one is neutered given their age and condition not sure if they will be to be honest. William is not a good candidate for neuter but Ben may be his nails look far younger than I would expect from a 4 year old. Going to see if they will pair together as a first step. Will keep you informed....

Very sad that Billy didn't make it but glad he slipped away peacefully and in a loving home- it goes a long way to restoring his piggy dignity. :rose

Good luck with all the others. Thank goodness they're with you now. x

Well looks like William and Ben are turning into the flower pot men, they have been absolutely lovely together a little bit of rumble strutting but nothing major at all now sat munching out of the same food bowl together in their new hutch, fingers crossed the peace continues. William is so chilled he ignores any manly behaviour Ben tries to induldge in so Ben just gives up I think he was most put out when William just lay down and fell asleep in the middle of what was obviously one of Bens most important and well thought out rumble struts!
