That's the second one in the last month :( It was Pixel this time - a great long strand that was stuck to her eyeball. Both my husband and I tried to get it out with a damp corner of paper towel, with no success, so I called the vet and tried one more time before bundling her off, and managed to get it out. Luckily I still have eye drops from when Widget had the same problem in January, so have given her a generous dollop of that and will see how it looks in the morning.

So... I'm looking for alternatives to a hay tray - any suggestions welcome!

Sorry to hear this .

Guinea pig enjoy hay so much I can't bring myself to take this pleasure away from them.

I hope her eye isn't too bad this morning.

Poor Pixel

No idea how to prevent hay pokes - we have had several here, too.

I blame the design of piggies. They need hay, love hay, but have protruding eyes with piddly eyelids.

Hope she's ok

How about a hay bag? a fleecy one? Mine get hay pokes but I love letting them burrow in their hay as it lets them display their natural behaviour. Hope she feels better soon.

Oh no... Sending lots of healing vibes for Pixel x x

Her eye is a little cloudy today, but nowhere near as inflamed and squinty as it was last night. Will be keeping an eye on her and continue with the drops, but vet visit asap if it doesn't start looking better by tomorrow :(

:( poor Pixel, I wish a speedy recovery poor lamb! You must feel so stressed after the hay pokes so near each other x

Well, we're off to the vet in 45 mins :( Her eye is very cloudy and the surrounding white area is red :( Feeling so bad at the moment, I can't help but feel that I've made it worse.

I'm officially a total cowbag :( There was more hay stuck right up under her top eyelid, so really no wonder it wasn't healing. It's quite badly ulcered but should clear up with drops within a week now that everything's been cleared out. Poor, poor fatty-pig :(

It's a definite design fault. Poor Pixel - I bet she feels better now that's out.
