Seems never-ending - but be aware this extremely unusual run of very severe storms are already going down in the history books and breaking records!

Another "explosive" low is approaching and now looking to be just as bad if not worse than the one that hit us last monday night/tuesday.

There will be more torrential rain and the South will cop it again on top of the already flooded rivers and saturated ground - heavy rain currently forecast between 2am and mid-day on 27th. You also need to factor in the 24-48hour delay whilst the larger rivers respond - witness Leatherhead/Guildford/Maidstone/Tonbridge yesterday/early this morning and now the Severn and the Thames.

Winds currently forecast to 60mph inland and >80mph on coasts on yellow warning currently....but expect this to be upgraded at short notice as the storm approaches - strongest winds will apparently affect mainly the western side of the country from Cornwall right through to Scotland.

Please keep an eye on the Met office and Environment Agency websites - especially if you live anywhere near a watercourse......plan your travel carefully and make sure you have torches/batteries etc at the ready and an evacuation plan in place if you are at serious risk.

Unfortunately, there is a further storm, possibly just as bad, coming through on 30th/31st December. ...more on that as the models become a bit more consistent.

Merry Xmas TGPF - hope you all manage to stay safe, warm and dry!

I'll miss all the hectic activity that goes with the bad weather as I'm off work for another 9 days.

Thanks pebble, it's great to have someone to decipher the weather forecasts for us and put it in plain English for us to understand, well me in any case. :bye:

Hope everyone is going to be ok

Thanks for the update - we are supposed to be travelling tomorrow and I'm getting a bit nervous now....

The winds here in the West Mids area is awful, it's kept me awake. Never had it so bad here, apart from the volume of rain of course and I am keeping an eye on the watering hole down in the field which is growing by the second. I am concerned about the massive oak tree in front of the house and the one in the back garden which I am positive has a new lean on it. More locally we have a warning of severe weather. We have electricity obviously but I do think if it doesn't subside we will lose it at some point as we are always in danger of loosing it in our village.

Hope everyone's outdoor piggy sheds are safe.

I was awoken about 1230 am by a massive bang, I thought the animal shed had been blown over, hurriedly got dressed to see it was the neighbours fence, straight back to a warm bed ;)

Well I am driving to Gloucester today from Nottingham and hopefully meeeting up with guineabecs from this forum who is driving to Gloucester from Wales - I am adopting her teddy guinea pigs. I'm hoping we both get there safely - bit worried...
