yipee for bubbles

as lot of you know bubbles has been very ill and it's been a long week since seeing the rodentologist.

bubbles wanted to eat but couldn't and woundn't really try. she's been syringe fed and the first time she took it no problem but that stopped and it became a bit of a fight :(.

all day and night she just sat in her house unless i took her out and then she would have a walk.

her weight went down below 845g she wouldn't look at hay.

well on wed night i made up her liquid food and left it by the settee to cool while i got my dinner, i put bubbles out on floor for a walk around.
i noticed she was missing and looked down by the settee and boy i wish i had, had a camera handy...... there was bubbles sitting back on her back legs with her front paws on the cup and looking so cute :smitten: first time she had shown any interest in food.

i picked her up and she looked at me as if to say mummy I'm hungry.

well that day she managed 38 syringes, i was over the moon. yesterday bubbles came out of her house and jumped out the box and went for a walk and started eating dried food, not alto but some :)

it's like she now knows her feed times and lastnight at 9 o'clock she was waiting for her food and checking out the mugs on the floor ;D yesterday she took a grand total of 53 syringes, and ate some dried food and some veg.

this morning she come out for her feed and for the first time picked up a piece of hay :D so excited.

i know bubbles is a satin and is ill but i feel she now has some of the old fight back in her and is now wanting to eat and feeling stronger.

well have to go work now.................p.s forgot to say her weight is now 894

Are you sure this is OD and not just dental problems? The two don't necessarily go together (Satins and OD) :)
 
no i don't know................ will get her checked out, just getting her stronger before i take her on another journey.

I'm just accepting she is a satin and will have a shorter life.

i still think she has been ill and just got so low that she lost interest in food and as a result of not eating her teeth got bad. her teeth weren't to bad tho.

at the moment still keeping an eye on the lump in her jaw, it has not got any bigger. still following the instructions that cct and rodentologist gave me.

and i didn't give any pain killer as she seemed ok, am just waiting for my order to arrive with the syrup you advised me to get.

do all satins get od ? or have i got the wrong end of the stick :-\
 
not long in from work and found her mug of food knocked over :) the little rat bag has come out of her box, gone on fire place and knocked it over and helped herself ;D I'll have to start keeping an eye on her if she is getting motivated again 0:) good sign i think tho.
 
:) Wrong end of stick :) So far only Satins have suffered from OD (though it appears that its carried in the genes/through a family line). But not all the Satins that I have had have suffered with OD. I only speak for my self... I had a sow that lived till she was 5 without getting OD (she was x-rayed and that was clear and she never presented any signs). Another sow I had till she was 4 that had mild OD that affected her hind leg- x-ray was positive for OD but I wouldn't say she suffered, she adjusted to having only the use of 3 legs and I gave her painkillers. Both these sows were ex breeding sows from the cavy fancy and may have lived even longer had they not been bred from (though that isn't always true). Their previous owner did not overbreed them and they lived free range...

yipeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee wrong end of stick............ i was so worried when she was ill that i must have misread everything. i was thinking she hadn't got long, got it in my head that 2 years was an old age for a satin.

will always keep an open mind :) and do all i can for my piggies. i thought there was no chance now i know there is ;)

right now i have to get her back to good health and get her weight back up.

i know it's gonna take awhile but the support and information from u has helped me so much.

I'm so happy for you, I was worried about Bubbles, but now i feel she's going to be just OK O0 :smitten: :smitten:
Isn't it lovely to see they've gained some weight after all the syringe feeding :smitten:
Ahhh bless her, i'm glad she's looking interested and wanting to eat, and to even pick up some hay well YIPPPEEEEEE :smitten: :smitten:
