Sorry if this doesn't go here, I wasn't sure.

So earlier I was at a garden centre, and there was a pet shop included there. I went to look around and I was browsing through the treats they had for sale and noticed yoghurt drops, and other treats by the same brand (can't remember the name off the top of my head, it had green packaging) and the ingredients stated that it had milk and milk derivatives. I thought adult guinea pigs were lactose intolerant, and it had a picture of a guinea pig on the front so I figured it was advertised for guinea pigs. So I asked a lady who worked there about it and she told me something along the lines of "It was made specially to be suitable for guinea pigs". But I don't really understand how milk that contains lactose (unless she means the lactose was removed, I guess? But it doesn't state that anywhere on the packaging) is suitable for lactose intolerant animals. Also I believe there was honey and nuts in some of the products too.

There was other things wrong with the pet store but I'm not gonna go into it because it isn't relevant to this.

So was she lying or? I'm going to try to find the brand.

The brand was Vitakraft I believe

They were also selling these doughnut things? I don't know.

I think I know what you are talking about I have seen them before and took a look and was thinking the same as you, for me I find if I'm not confident in the brand or treat I don't buy it I'm not sure if they have it in the UK but in Canada Oxbow is the gold standard for guinea pig items.

also, guinea pigs don't need the pet store treats they can have just fruit and veg but its nice to give them something new if you can find something suitable for them and isn't too expensive.

hope this helps :D

Loads of pet store food treats are lying about being suitable for guinea pigs. It's a shame really, yoghurt drops are definitely not good for guinea pigs, they don't eat dairy. A good treat for Guineas are hay cookies, either meadow hay one or Timothy. Try those 👍

Mine love the hay cookies from Wilko. A paper bag with the handles cut off full of hay and forage is also a yummy treat for a piggy. A simple hay tray is exciting too or something like HUGE pile of hay that they can run in and out of and rumage around in and play chase in and out of. There is an Enrichment thread on the Forum but can't link in on this device. Go to the search bar and you should be able to find it.
