I was sitting watching my pigs when I realised that I do a few pretty insane things for my little balls of fluff that other people might think were a bit... eccentric.

So, what do you guys do that you think makes you a guinea pig slave?

You know you're a piggie slave when...
... you start to take things from work so that they can play with them (cardboard boxes, for example, from a bar job).
... you realise almost anything can be made into a safe, fun piggie toy!
... you turn your diet primarily vegetarian to cut the costs of your food bill so your pigs can eat healthily.
... if they wheek at you enough when you're eating lunch, and what you have is piggie safe you will either sacrifice some veggies from your plate or go and get them something to munch on... they look so hungry!
... you're going to fail your university degree because you keep thinking of new cage designs (C&C cage)
... you procrastinate from studying by buying or bidding for guinea pig toys on ebay.

Yeah. I'm nuts.

Ha Ha that is brillant

I have to say I do much of the above I am a total slave to my piggies :)

You know you're a piggy slave when;

- you extend the mortgage to buy a new conservatory, spend ages painting it and installing really nice tiles on the floor and promptly turn the whole thing over to guineapigs
- you ban the OH from mowing the lawn or pulling up dandelions for the piggies
- your friends asks if there's anything in the fridge (salad wise) that isn't for the piggies (this happened!)

There's more, but I think those just prove it!

You know you're a piggy slave when:

You get up at 6am just so you can sort out their breakfast, runs etc and still end up going without breakfast or running late for work because you had to give everyone a morning cuddle.

Your colleagues start leaving banana skins, apple and pear cores on your desk to take home for your hungry tribe.

Your neighbours dont blink an eyelid when they see you sitting on the lawn having a chat with your little friends.

Your nectar points offers revolve around points off pet products.

Your husband doesn't blink an eyelid when you have a queue of pigs waiting for their nails to be clipped, hair cut etc.

should I continue.....

You know you are piggy slave when

-your neighbours stop batting an eyelid watching you with scissors out on the lawn all year round (instead of using their donated lawn mower!)

- your OH has to eat lots of chunky veg soup (chicken, meatballs, fish) purely for health reasons, of course...

-your piggies get their grass before your OH his piece of cake.

- the last time you gave your OH a big kiss and a hug was when he dropped his work and drove you to the vets for an emergency

- you think that building a new platform for the pigs is more important than finishing the decking...

Let's say my OH would prefer to be a piggy in his next life... provided they ate cake!

.... When you get home from work and before you say hi to your fella you pick up the kitchen sissors and walk back outside & cut a big chunk of grass from the front garden - from the patch you asked your fella not to mow as it would be eaten in couple of weeks anyway!

.... When you give the piggies breakfast / tea before you even get a cup of coffee or food for yourself

.... When there is more food in the fridge for the piggies than for you

.... When you can't go out on a friday night (like me tonight) as it's cage clean evening

.... When your fella has to go upstairs as he can't hear the tv over your chatting (to the pigs)

.... When you spend your whole life covered in piggie hair as no matter how many times you use a pet hair remover and wash your clothes they still come out the machine with hair on them

.... when you have a framed picture of your lovelies on your desk at work (and you don't even have one of your fella)

.... When you encourage your fella to go out with his mates so you can take over the living room with runs and spread mess everywhere then let you & your piggies have a chilled out evening without feeling guilty

.... When you refuse to use weed and feed on the front garden as dandelions are the piggies favourite

.... When you ask for advance warning before your fella cuts the lawn so you can rescue the most juiciest looking dandelions before they are mowed down!

Hmmm.... think I may need another hobbie :))

haha, yes, the little darlings do seem to run our lives.

another one...

...when you don't bat an eyelid when you hear something being chewed on because you can tell exactly what's being chewed on by the sound they're making... when you give people an odd look for checking every time they hear the pigs chewing on something because you think it's weird that they can't tell.

... when you'll play the same song over and over because the pigs seem to popcorn to it.

... when you spend endless hours researching guinea pig care and going over common illness symptoms just in case.

... your "Guinea Pig record" book is out more than revision notes.

you know you're a piggie slave when . . .

- you turn up for work with hay in your hair

This has happened sooooo many times. Luckily they are quite sympathetic. My pets visit the homeless shelter where I work regularly, "for the kids", but the women get more entertainment then the kids :))

... when you go away for a couple of days and take their pigtures with you and worry the whole time even though they have the best piggy sitter

... when you always have scissors with you in case you find some nice grass somewhere

... when you go to Ikea to buy stuff for their cage and not your house

... when you learn to use a sewing machine for the sole purpose of making piggy stuff

... when your fridge is always full of piggy stuff but nothing left to eat for yourself

... when you buy Romaine lettuce for the pigs and iceberg for yourself

.......some of my piggy slave moments are scary!
.......when you get your daughter babysat for a few days so you can have quality time with a sick piggy.
.......when i ask my neighbours to use there lawn as my OH sprayed ours(silly man)
.......When i sook in petshops because the don't stock enough for piggies
.......when you open my fridge and think I'm a vegetarian.
.......when i baby talk to my piggies even though the have just peed on merolleyes
.......When i ask my piggies if they need anything else while my OH is sitting there looking hungry

You know you're a piggie slave when......

....you advertise your dining table and chairs on freecycle to make way for a new C&C
....you go shopping for new curtains and end up buying new vetbed instead
....the shelf dedicated to piggie veg in fridge is always full whereas the rest of the fridge is nearly empty!

Yeah. I'm nuts.
i've done all of these, and i dont care what anyone says. have you ever had a pub meal and saved everyone's salad that they dont eat for your piggies? i have, i always wash it before giving it all to them though!

You know your a piggy slave when .......................

You get up at 6am just to give cuddles because Chestnut wont shut up until he has one

you know you're a piggie slave when...

...you're moving property just so you can have extra things for them like a garden, extra room for another fridge (purely for the piggies veggies!)
...you give your piggies doubled barreled sirnames according to who chose them, such as Pheobe Morris-Weston, Ruby Weston-Morris, Bethany Morris-Weston, Maggie-May Weston-Morris and Sonny Morris-Weston, and you can't wait to marry their daddy and then all be Westons together!
...you go all gooey looking at fleeces for your babies and think of colours they might like
...you buy them new stuff for their birthdays, easter, valentines days, christmases and you get them cards too!
...you always sign your cards from yourself and each and every piggie!
...you give your OH either fathers or mothers day cards from your piggies

yes, i do all these! x

Yes loads of times much to the embarrassment of my 13 and 11 year old!

You know you're a piggy slave when your children are hungry, asking when tea will be and you tell them "you'll have to wait, the furries need their tea first"

You know you're a piggy slave when setting up their cage is the most important part of moving house, and rather than get your furniture up you spend half an hour in the new garden getting them some dandelions =]
also when your new room is smaller than your old one but you dedicate all your floor space to them, even though your carpet will end up covered in hay and poop... never mind their brand new cage they need popcorn room!

my boyfriend thinks I'm crazy that i moan about getting home later than 6 because the pigs will be waiting for their tea! and he moans that i make him take me home just to feed them b4 we go anywhere else! lol

you know your a piggy slave when:

.....you get up when they start weeking for their breckfast no matter how tired you are!

......you clean out their cage and cuddle them when you so ill you can barely move.

....when you insist you have to feed the pigs before yourself.

....when you go in the kitchen to get a snack and automatically reach for a grape/veggie aswell because there will be hell to pay if you leave the pigs out!

.... you spend over £100 in one week on treats and toys you don't need :))

That's me this week I got a bit bored and a little too excited, I spend £20odd at pampered piggies, then ordered another 4 snuggle sacs from cosy cavies when I already have 4 at about £19, then I went to dobbies yesterday and spent £22 on treats etc.. then today I went to the range and spent £24 and then P@h today spending £10 and then got some lovely fleeces and two cat beds from B&M at around £10!

When you

- You can spot a Dandilion leave at 100 yards and you have to pick it
- When you HAVE to feed the piggies before yourself, however hungry you are
- You head straight to the veg isle in the supermarket to buy their fav veggies, before you even look at the food for yourself.
- You search the broccoli crates in the supermarket to collect the stalks people have cut off!
- You have to ensure you pick all the lush grass before the lawn is mowed
- You have all your work colleagues collecting Newspapers, dandilions and shredding their paper for you.
- You have far more toiletries/medicines/shampoos for the piggies than yourself.

God I could go on.....rolleyes

...your piggies have their own room.

...you talk about your piggies so much people use the word "obsessed" to describe your relationship with the piggies.

…the waiter/waitress at a restaurant brings your salad and you can’t help but think how much your piggies would love to dig into it.

…you can’t talk to piggies in a normal voice, it is a special “Piggy Voice†(pitch may differ from pig to pig).

…you have a pile of saved soda can boxes just for the piggies to play in.

…you refer to them as "children".

…you weigh the piggies more than you weigh yourself.

...the piggies diets are WAY more balanced and healthy than your own!

…you drag other people into the wonderful world of piggies and you can have a conversation about the funny things they do for hours (my Mom is now an avid piggy lover!)
