when they say guinea pigs are addictive they wheren't kidding :o I only got my first after all my reseach for my brithday in march and look at me now 4 guinea pigs and id have a 5th had i had enought room. Whats happening to me surley theres a cure to this addictivness ;D ;D

NOPE!
sorry to disappoint but there is no therapy for this addiction Get on with it LOL :)

Lol guess the only cure is buillding a bigger space to add more piggies :D

Lol i want another two girls, which would bring me to 6 ::) told my boyfriend today and got told i was mad ;D they're so addictive!

Lol they are its there sweet little personality and the way they wheek at ou as if there having a proper conversation ;D i would love a black piggie and maybe a rex piggie to complete my gang of piggies but id need more funds and space first oh one day :D

I have space and money but i think my mum would give me the guilt trip and ask if i really needed more etc! I'd love a black one, or a golden :smitten:

I'm so new to pggy life, i got my first two early this year, then the mummy died so got the other 3 (yes i know 3 but addiction was already taking hold) then i ended up with the preggys now i got 12..... and this forum only feeds my addiction, now i know about addiction (I'm a admin on a addiction site) and this ginea addiction is alllll goooooooooooooddddddddd!
Seiously the piggs really help me with my depression and they give me so much, I adore them and there little piggy ways (arnt they Deva"s!)

I'm happy with my 5 but do want another for Cuzzy, I'm waiting for him to get over the teenage stage (although he has been fine) and I'll get a wee boar for him. I also want to start a rescue but won't do it through the winter as it means any pigs going outside in a 5x2 spare hutch so I hope to get another shed soon that I can ventilate in summer and make cosy in winter. :)

Exactly, I got my first 2 for my birthday in March and look now I have 7 ;D

Started with one, grew to 8. I find myself wondering, "How did this happen?" Lol they are so addictive, I want more but I don't have all that much space left... ;D ;D

how old are they when they out grow there teenage stage? about,, i want to get mine all a little one each cause they fight with each other and have all had to be seperated,, i thought when they get over this narky stage they are in would they accept a baby boy to be friends with
they are very addictive,, i am looking in the shed wondering is it possible to get another hutch in there ::)

Sometimes they never they grow out of the teenage stage - bit like men really! (Sorry chaps! :-X) Some of them are always narky by natures just like humans! Some never accept cagemates while others have a huge circle of friends! Sorry not much help but you'll know when the time is right to add some more.

I started off with 1 and ended up with over 70 so I know all about addiction! ;D

I have 2 piggies and I pick up 2 more next week.
The forum is very addictive, my housework is very often neglected. ;D ;D

it is terrible I'm at 7 now in a studio flat, they are addictive because everyone is so individual, they all have their own little ways, I even know each one by their squeak while I am in the next room! 98)
This forum is very addicitive too, I never get any work done anymore, I sit here at my desk all day pretending to work, get all shirty if anyone comes near my desk if I am reading a thread or replying, then cram all my work into the last half hour!

I read it was about 9 months to get them past being teenagers Cuzzy will be 9 months in March so I'm hoping he'll bond with a babe after that!

Yep it's addictive here, I can't get off this site! Damn you all! ;D

I started off with two now have eight :)
I brought Hamish and Bumble then I got Rimmer a few month later and had him neutered to sort the minxs out ;) Then Blossom and Treacle came into my life after living an awful life. I then got Oakley :smitten: Then on Saturday I adopted Chillie and Pippa :smitten:

I have to say, I think its important for people to know their limits with getting any animal...

I know I am going to get shouted at, but I have to say it! And I am not talking about anyone here, more about animal hoarders!

I dont understand why some people have large amounts of pet guineas. The more piggies you get, the less time you have for the piggies you have got, I just sometimes wish people would be happy with thepiggies they have sometimes. I have gone to homecheck a couple of people in the past where there have been guinea pigs crammed into every space, treated well - but I just dont see why they have so many! I think it really is an addiction to just keep buying more for some people!

I dont buy the arguement that 'they dont need human contact if they have cagemates' because I really think the more confident the guinea pig, the happier it will be, and the confidence is gained through human contact and trust, not by leaving them in cages all day, opening the cage a couple of times to stick some food in there.

Maybe if people think about getting more piggies in the future they could consider fostering, as there are always piggies coming and going, and you dont get 'bored', and get to experience lots of different piggies, in all shapes, sizes and personalities :) O0

100% agree with you about the hoarders no one would shout at you about that. Its about knowing your limits and not over crowding. Hoarders are different though as they *THINK* that they are rescueing the animals when in fact they are making a situation that in the end sadly rescues that end up with them with many of them in dreadful condition. :tickedoff:

I have 4 now and would dearly love more but I know my limits . I feel that if I had more the others would not get the same time and attention that they are used to, saying that it doesn't stop me wanting ;D ;D

I totally agree. I can manage my 5 with cuddles every night with no problem at all. I would have only just been sitting there watching TV now I can do that with pigs on my knee its great!

But 5/6 would be my limit for my own pigs. I couldn't commit to more as much as I'd love to. If I didn't have a house to look after and 2 daughters and going to college then of course I could offer more time but it's about knowing how much time you have. I'll have more time next year as I stop going to college until the following September when I start uni with any luck!

I've always said it but if you have animals you have a duty of care, it's critical you provide everything for them, treat them well and give them the right care when needed.

I'm nodding furiously! ;D

It makes it a lot harder when the person believes they are rescuing by collecting freeads pigs, and grabbing guineas from anyone that is rehoming! I think they do mean well, and probably have lots of knowledge, but just dont seem to put it into place, or get bored with their animals very quickly and have to keep getting more rather than just settling for the ones they have!

And people thats herd grows very quickly over a short period of time in my opinion, are the ones that will get bored of guineas altogether, then they end up in rescues or being given away >:(

I completely agree about the hoarders, they make me mad >:( but i think a lot of the problem is also that lots of pigs fall out so people who started off with one, then got them a friend, who they fell out with, so they had to get two other friends for them, end up with 4 when they startd with one! The problem can esculate! x

I have 12 and thats it I think. I love spending evenings with them and in the warmer weather being out in the garden watching them and sitting in their runs with them. I know all my piggies individually and all their need I know what their fav foods are and what they dont like! I would never be able to cope with that many more on a full time basis and holiday care for lots of piggies is a issue too so smaller numbers for me!

Hoarders drive me mad they live in a fantasy world tbh they just want more pigs and generally forget about them once they have them and are on to the next lot and then eventually they end up neglecting them and they have to be rehomed :'(

I agree with Emma the problem can esculate. Like S&T they fell out last week, it was nothing major, some rumbling and teeth chattering from T, sadly if they had a huge full out I'd have to re-home T I simply don't have the room for another pig to live solo. But fingers crossed it will never come to that and I don't want to lose him to someone else.

This is why i will wait until spring to find a friend for Cuzzy, I want him to choose one when he is a little older. There is some method in my madness. I'm trying to be sensible, maybe sometimes though your heart rules your head! :)
