My gorgeous piggie, Boris, is 4 and a half months old. I bought him from a pet shop who assured me he'd be fine on his own, but I can't help thinking he'd be so much happier with a friend. What would you advise for this un-neutered boy piggie?

Hi and welcome to the forum. The pet shop was wrong. Guinea pigs are social animals and need a friend. The best option is to take Boris to your nearest rescue for boar dating. This is were he can choose his own friend. You cannot just get another boar and hope they get on as they may not. Boar dating is perfect as the rescue will carry on until he finds a suitable friend. This rescue locator will help you find your nearest rescue.

Thanks piggyfan, I suspected all along that it wasn't right and asked them more than once for reassurance. Perhaps it was because he'd just been separated from his sisters and this was the only way they could sell him. Will I need to neuter him though?

No he does not need to be neutered unless you wish for him to live with a sow.

Hi and Welcome to the forum. Best thing to do is try to do some boar dating to get him a companion. If this doesn't work then maybe think about getting him neutered so you can then try for a female companion. Bunny Burrows in Richmond, North Yorkshire quite often have piggies in ready to be adopted. They're having am open day tomorrow (Sunday 13th April) called "Hot Cross Bunny Day" in Richmond Town Hall between 10am and 4pm. If you can make it, pop in & have a chat to Gwen who runs the rescue.
