young guineas weights?

It's hard to put an exact amount on it, if I was you I would just weigh them once a week or so and check they're gaining. As long as they're not looking skinny and are eating well, I'd let them get on with it

thanks Sophie. i have a sow who came with the 2 boars and they had been kept together so she could be pregnant she seems to be putting weight on well (looking at her havent weighed her this week yet) but seems to be going fat on one side of her stomache. is that normal?

It depends how many babies are inside - if it's an even number, they look more evenly 'fat' than if there's an odd number or just one. I'd pop her on the scales and keep an eye on her. Is she one of the babies? If so she's unlikely to be pregnant at 300g - but not impossible.

Good luck!

ye shes one of the babies. but I'm worried that she could of got pregnant at any point. i separated them as soon as they got here but they were already 6 weeks old so could be possible. I hope not as shes only little and shes really setteling well with my other sows. Just want to be ready for anything really

You should be able to tell by comparing her shape to that of her brothers, and her weight if they started at similar weights. 300g is only small, nature is a wonderful thing and hopefully she's escaped pregnancy but if not then just lots of good veg and vitamin C should see her through

Well i weighed the piggies today and Lincolns weight has worried me abit. He was 1100g last week now his 1300g. Shoudnt he be roughly the same at his age? (1 year old) or is he still growing? The babies came up as 400g the boys and 450g the girlie. Is that an ok weight gain from 300g?
thanks

I wouldn't worry about Lincoln's weight gain, he's been a bit off colour hasn't he so perhaps he lost a bit and has now put it back on?

When did you last weigh babies? That's a healthy weight gain I'd say, do it again in a week and keep an eye on the possibly pregnant sow

The babies 1st weighin was last saturday (the day i got them) then i weighed them today. I'm going to do it every weekend. If the sow is pregnant is she ok with the other sows? To be honest i dont think she is as 50g difference isnt much is it? But want to be safe.

If she's six weeks old she is still growing and could only be two weeks pregnant so it's a bit too early to tell even with weighing. You will know soon enough and she should be fine staying in with Meg and Squirrel you might even find them helping her with the birth and babies

My own youngsters tended to put on up to 3oz (85g) per week until they were about 5 months old. I have ended up with some natural porkers though. My tiniest adult only gained 1oz every other week (despite eating well and being healthy).
