i have a one year old male, i don't want to get him castrated as he has gone through a lot and both the vet and me think he wouldn't make it.

I am planning to get him another boar and have read that a baby will go well, but also an adult will go though will take a little longer to bond. The reason behind this is that the older one wouldv't already gone through the adolesant stage and so are less likely to fall out in the future.

what do you all think
 
Your best bet is to try your local guinea pig rescue/RSPCA as they will likely let you bring your boar along to meet some other single boars to "pick his own friend" as it is usually pretty obvious wether they will or wont get on! you could go and get a boar friend for him but it is more complicated than that and seems to come down to their respective dominant/submissive personalities!

Hope it all works out for you and maybe try the rescue section here and guineapig rehome online too :)
 
Irene in Winsford (Cavy Heaven) in Cheshire lets you bring your piggy too. She had loads of boars (young and young-ish) 3 weeks ago. I couldn't see whether you were local, but that's always an idea...

I agree with checking homes, etc but being so fussy is counter productive. My run is 1m x 4m, it's a piece of carpet (as explained on previous threads), but my cage is tiny for 2 (50cm x 100cm). I'm out all day but the piggies get a good 1hr + maybe twice that every night and they are very happy. Thing is I know I'd have been turned away by some rescues because of my cage. Yet, we are all happy and healthy.
 
I believe that both young and old are fine but have found that 2 older boars are more likely to get on forever where as sometimes a young boar can get bigger and then they fall out
 
I keep getting conflicting info. I wanted an older boar to partner with Bertie after he lost his lifetime partner Rene but was told tut tut impossible, they'll fight, get a young one, tadidadida. I don't regret having Finlay, he's sweet and has made huge progress with handling but I wanted to give a poor piggy a 2nd chance at life.

Anyway, afetr being shown the ropes, Finlay is now boss except for a few things that are sacred: Bertie's house is HIS house and his pellet dish is HIS. After that he's happy sharing (esp Fin's house), cuddling the pup and playing with him.
 
I'd go for a baby boar as your best chance to bond with an adult one. We've got lots here, in Norfolk. Probably too far for you, why don't you post a 'wanted' thread in the rescue section? Someone might be able to help
