Hi everyone, I have two almost 10 week old boars who I myself have only had for just over a week now. I’ve been letting them on the grass for 30 mins a day for nearly a week now as understand I need to let their tummies get used to it before I put them out for longer. My question is, am I being too cautious with 30 minutes? Can they already have longer? And also, at what increments would you increase the length of time they’re out there for? Feel awful whenever I have to bring them back in as they’re so happy 😞

If they are ok with 30 minutes and there is no sign of soft poop, then I would increase it by 15 minutes for most of next week, then increase it again a few days/week later if all is well.
You have to play it by ear and see how they are going. Ensure hay is always available in their run.

You have to do the same each and every year.
Rich spring grass can upset their tummies. By summer the grass is drier and a bit more hay like. However this summer with it being wet, my lawn is as lush now as it was in spring!

I start around February/March time by picking handfuls of grass (as long as it isn’t frozen) in increasing amounts to give them in their shed for several weeks. By mid to end of April when the weather is nicer they are usually ready to go on the grass for 30 mins or so I then increase by 10-15 mins every few days/week until by June they are usually on the lawn most of the day.

Thank you so much 🙏🏻 This is so helpful. I increased their time on the grass by 10 minutes today (so they had 40 mins) as since last week they’ve been absolutely fine with the 30 mins a day. I’ll keep going as I have been then and all being well they should be fine with much longer periods in a few weeks 😊
