hi all
I have had my girls for a month now (they are approx 3 months old), they have been getting on more or less fine until yesterday! :{

Saturdays are always my day for a thorough cage clean with vinegar and water, the whole cage, sleep boxes, tunnels everything. When I put them back Barbie (under sow) decided to take possesion of Xionati's sleep box (dominant sow). This has caused a complete rucus!

Xionati trying to get barbie out of her house and Barbie refusing. Chasing each other around, squeaking, chasing each other in circles, lifting chins at each other, Barbie continually rumblestrutting etc. Is this normal for Sows? Could it be that Barbie has had enough of being a bit bullied?

I really really hope it doesn't escalate into anything further.........

Hi T

That's fairly normal behaviour, I wouldn't worry too much unless it escalates.

Rather than individual hideys I have a large covered area with an open front, so no one gets to control the entrance and there's plenty of space for both pigs to sleep without crowding each other. It's made of plywood so strong enough for their food bowl and water drip tray to go up there - the pigs get more exercise getting up and down too. In the hot weather a freezer pack can be placed on it so that the bedroom area underneath has it's own air conditioning.

thanks suzy, will get my hubby on a bit more DIY tomorrow (he has 2 days off work :))) to start a bit of remodelling.

Previously I had followed the advice to have 2 of everything but now i'll change it to 1 big covered sleep area and see if that helps as all the bickering is about the sleep boxes!

these pigs have certainly found a slave wrapped around their tootsies! x)
