But I applied for Pets @ Home a couple of months back and got through to the assessment part of the interview!
They told us about Pets @ Home and said that they put animals before profit I was thinking to myself a load of ....
Anyway I didn't get the job but half of them in there didn't even have experience with animals only owned a cat or dog.

A job's a job. If you had gotten it you could have been able to advise people about how to properly care for their pets and when no one was listening suggest rescues!

That's what I was thinking of doing if I did get the job!

I know we all go on about pets at home and how incompetent they are - but perhaps if they employed more experienced staff all the blunders we hear about day in day out wouldnt happen so frequently.

If you had of got the job - at least that would have been one member of staff that could have given the correct advise on guinea pigs/animals - plus point is we could have had someone on the inside ;)

Yep, the manager was lovely like
I would have been moaning on here all the time lol

I couldn't work there I think I'd be like 'nope you're not having one, i have to come to your house and make sure they're going to be kept correctly!' Although when i was litttle it was one of my favourite places to go as i loved all the animals x)

I used to work for PampurredPets like ten years ago now, but I have to say at the time (can't speak for now) we were really great. Animals were treated lovely, we're treated at the vets if they did get the odd poorly one, and we were really anal about who we sold to & sizes of cages. I was into my rats at the time & I made them a bomb by talking people into buying books & mahoosive cages -c

So not all pet shops are bad all the time. Altho I was in pah last weekend & the guy on the till told me he shoved his 2 new guinea pigs in with his 2 existing rabbits the day before because 'there's no need to introduce slowly it's best just to spring it on them'

Niiiiice.

I wouldn't have sold the animal to people who I didn't think where suitable, that would have been everyone :))
I used to love Petworld, my brother worked there and it was brilliant

I know, I would be like reserve that one I'II be taking it home!

haha I'm a sucker for a sad face - to be fair all piggies have sad faces which doesn't make browsing the rehoming board very easy - i sooooo need a bigger house, or i could just move the kids out - that's two extra piggie rooms ;)

See they don't get trained up enough!
I would never put a rabbit in with a guinea pig.
Hate it when they stick new guinea pigs in with the other ones that where there in the first place I would be scared if they started fighting

I'm sitting here wondering why in the hell you didn't get the job - pets at home needs more staff like you :)

Lol!
I would love to run my own rescue, I know it is hard work only thing tho is I wouldn't wanna say goodbye to them when they go to their forever home I would wanna keep them all.
My brother said to me you know if you got the job, you can't become attached to the animals, It would have been hard for me not too.

I don't think experience mean anything now to be honest.
I done 3 years at college doing animal care (First Diploma in Animal Care & National Certificate in Animal Management) so they wouldn't have had to train me up that much and all the advice on here I know quite abit about guinea pigs now

I would be the same re. rescue piggies - i'd never want to let them go, wouldn't take long for me to become attached :... The way rescues have to look at it though is one piggie rehomed means one more space for the next needy pig....

Such a shame - because i really think that if pets at home are never going to give up the selling of animals then the very least they could do is employ some qualified staff.....

Yeah, your right about the rehoming, I would maybe go and see how they are getting on in a months time after adopting!
I know, our pets at home half of them don't know anything and the vets at the back I applied for that job aswell and never got it, there a girl in there talking to her at how many animals I've got and she said what's a Degu!? Really what's the point of her working there! They have them instore aswell
